Chips were cooked perfectly. Salsa had good flavor but not much heat. Asada street tacos were also very good. This is a good place to come for a family meal. Servers were very polite and attentive.

There’s a bell curve with Mexican restaurants. Most of them fall in the middle with similar tastes and dishes. There are the occasional bad ones. And there are the occasional phenomenal ones. El Rancho Viejo is one of the latter. Council Grove doesn’t know how good they’ve got it.
I went in with average expectations, but the flavor was really good. They offer options, such as many made-in-house sauces I’ve never seen at any other Mexican restaurant I’ve been to. The portions were smaller than the average Mexican restaurant, but the flavor made up for it. The service was also good the time I was there.
I loved it so much, I hope to make it back one day and try another dish.

Located on the main street in this beautiful small town, this restaurant was a very good find. We were immediately greeted by a very pleasant waitress, who promptly took our drink order, brought a large basket of chips and small pitcher of delicious salsa. We ordered the special, beef fajitas, it was delicious. Our orders were brought out within minutes and well prepared. Our waitress continued to check on us and refilled our drinks and salsa when we asked.
I recommend this restaurant and encourage you to take time to look around the town.
