Restaurant inside a Mexican market. The food and beverages and desserts are good. Marketed as authentic Mexican food. I was referred here by a woman from Mexico. Good service. Extensive menu in small print. Well decorated. Casual. In a strip mall.

Two visits, two home runs. A group of us ordered various items and everything we had was fantastic. The steak was surprisingly flavorful and well prepared. The enchiladas and tacos, were all on point. The atmosphere adds an authentic touch to the meals. Special shout out to our waiter, Alex, whose suggested meals haven’t missed yet. Wonderful hole in the wall type spot that you might walk right by if you don’t know about it.

So happy I found this place!! Being from southern California and living there for 36 years I know authentic Mexican food. This one is THE BEST! The food was absolutely amazing. I can’t tell you how many times my eyes got wide after taking a bite of all the food we ordered, just delicious!! Birria tacos and chicharron with guacamole and salsa was absolutely amazing!! We also tried their agua fresca- horchata and pineapple; and all of their tres leches cakes. I want to try all of the desserts lol. Their pan dulce is awesome as well, goes great with coffee! We also bought a lot of Mexican candy from the store side and outside we got the mixed fruit with chamoy, lime, and tajin; also a coconut water with coconut meat.

The food was extremely fresh. Kids menu was good too! They have a large selection of food to order. I would give 5 star, however, we sat down, and waited about 15 min to see waitress. She was nice and energetic, but, even though might seem small to others our food came out at 3 different times my fiances came out about 5 min b4 our daughters meal and 10 min b4 mine meal so we weren’t eating together at all. Also took about 20 to 25 min after meal was done to get anyone’s attention for containers and the bill. We only saw our waitress when we gave our meal order and when we got her attention for the check. She didnt come to check if we were OK w our meal, if we needed anything, nothing. She was kind and the food was really good I hate to give a 4 star but the service could of been a bit better. This does not mean I won’t go back bc the food is worth the aggravating wait…I will Def be visiting again bc the food was amazingly good.

Great food and awesome atmosphere. It was a little confusing figuring out the restaurant since there’s no clear area to wait. I eventually just sat down and someone came over in a bit. Service wasn’t very fast but they were really nice. Food tasted great. It wasn’t cheap ($16 plus tax for chicken chimichanga) but the portion sizes were excellent, so I can’t complain. The chips had a unique type of sauce that sets them apart from the generic chips and red salsa. My main issue is they had plastic cups for water and plastic cutlery. I wish they would use reusable glasses and cutlery, just seems kind of wasteful. But not a huge deal overall. I still recommend checking this place out for the cool atmosphere! FYI, the restaurant closes an hour earlier than the rest of the store.

I love this restaurant. Every time I go, I look forward to their delicious food and having Alexis as my waiter. He’s so kind and always helps me with the menu. His recommendations are always spot on! Someone give this man a raise for dealing with customers like me! lol He’s patient and always willing to help this gringa out! I can’t say enough good things about this place, Alexis, the atmosphere, the food, the mini mart, and the bakery. El Primo is a hidden gem and I’m glad I found it.

Food is decent, not the best but if you’re craving Mexican food you’ll be satisfied. Service is not that great. Everytime I’m there, I have to wait extra for my drink, or to order anything else due to the servers being on their phone most of the time. Last time, I had to wait and wait after ordering extra chips, the waitress was on her phone, she forgot my order. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s an inconvenience. Hopefully, the manager read this and give proper training, I don’t necessarily want them in trouble, they were still attentive when they approached me. The music is good though, you can listen good music while eating. Also, after eating you can grab some desserts (flan, churros, tortas, bunch of breads and pastries), my bf bought some… I didn’t like any but my bf loved all of em.

I really enjoyed my visit to El Primo. At first, I was intrigued—walking past outdoor vendors and through a convenience/grocery store just to reach the restaurant tucked in the back. The place was packed, the music was loud, and the smell from the kitchen had my mouth watering before we even sat down.
We were seated and given tortilla chips topped with a black bean gravy and a dusting of white queso. The waiter let us know there was a toppings bar, free to use as much as we liked. It featured fresh tomato salsa, salsa verde, a spicy sauce, and a guacamole salsa. It also had fresh diced onions, chopped cilantro, lime, and slices of guacamole.
The combo of those sauces with the chips and bean gravy was incredible. Honestly, I could have made a meal out of just that.
Eventually, we ordered. Since the place was so busy, it took a little while to get our food, but the wait was worth it. My wife ordered a chimichanga, and I got three tacos—two beef and one al pastor. The tacos came simply with meat and tortilla, and you add your own toppings from the bar. I was slightly disappointed they didn’t come with rice or refried beans, but after biting into the al pastor taco, the toppings bar more than made up for it. The pork was incredibly tender and flavorful. It was so filling, I couldn’t even start on the beef tacos—though I did sneak a bite, and wow, they were delicious too. I can’t wait to eat them as leftovers.
My wife’s chimichanga was excellent as well. Her plate came with salad, beans, and rice. She gave me a bite, and it was delicious. The marinated chicken inside was full of flavor, and I loved the crispy fried tortilla shell.
The atmosphere had music blasting, but we didn’t mind it much. There were a couple of TVs showing different things. The one near us was playing ION, which felt a little random, while the other had a Spanish-language channel on.
After dinner, we paid and walked back through the store area of the building. There was a bakery-style section where you pick your pastries and bring them to the cashier at the front. You’re supposed to use clean tongs and place your selections on a silver tray.
The prices were pretty reasonable—about what you’d expect at other Mexican restaurants.
Overall, the experience was great—better than expected.
