Pleasant atmosphere, service was not slow. Food was served hot. My wife and felt the servings were of pleasant size and taste. We were checked on several times to see if we needed anything. The establishment seemed to be rather busy yet good service.

Good price and good value but the food is rather bland. A sameness to the taco, burrito and chili relleno that I had. Need to spice up their sauce a bit.

The chicken quesadilla is amazing. We go there maybe once a week and always order the exact same thing. So tasty it never gets old. Service is also great with prompt refills.

Service and atmosphere was great, Ordered fajitas for two, and there was more onions and peppers. Then there was meat that was very disappointing. Salsa tasted like vinegar. I don’t know who made the change to this restaurant But it was not good.

So, I come to this restaurant after reviewing other experiences. I decided to give this place a try because I love Mexican food. So the lady who I thought was the host walked in front of me without a word and just sat down still with out a word and never gave me her name.. sooo after a minute she ask me what I wanted to order .. still never have me her name or did a introduction at all.. I asked her a few questions regarding their lunch menu… my food was made very quickly and by the way I order a quesadilla.. why my quesadilla is wet on the inside of it drenched in the chicken grease/water. I didn’t not enjoy my food and also I didn’t know even want to order anything else because I was nervous. The manager walked around and went to all the tables expect mine. The service here suck literally.. home girl really messed up her. Tip… the only tip she can get it get better customer service. I wish I took a picture of the food but she took it away so fast.

Ok Mexican food, meat tacos not good, Chile relleno ok, steak nachos were good. If you are looking for American Mexican food then this place is ok but definitely not authentic. Margaritas are very sweet but good.

This is the best Mexican food I have ever had. I know that’s a bold statement, but I stand by it. I first ate here randomly six years ago when I was visiting Lafayette. I got the fajitas then, and my mind was blown. For the past six year, I’ve been thinking about this place at least once a month. When I was passing through this week, I made a point to stop for lunch. I got the Texana fajitas (shrimp, chicken, beef, and chorizo), a tamale (beef), and some sopaipillas to go. I also got a beer and chips/salsa. After this meal, the conclusion was solidified: best Mexican food I’ve ever had.

El Portrillo is traditional Mexican food with a traditional atmosphere. They don’t make an attempt to be trendy, and I like that. Their prices are low and easy to bring family and friends out to eat. I like that too! A longstanding Northside go-to for Mexican food.
