While some things have changed over the last few decades, El Pollo Loco’s delivery of fresh, authentic food has not. Everything starts with whole chickens that are slowly marinated in a special recipe of herbs, spices, fruit juices and garlic. The chicken is then expertly fire-grilled to perfection the authentic way – on our signature open-flame grills – then hand cut into your favorite Mexican entrees. We put that same dedication and care into our handmade guacamole, salsas and dressings every day. At El Pollo Loco in Albuquerque, NM, we believe that when real food meets real fire the result is great taste that will keep you coming back again and again.

They aren’t sticking to the original recipe . The corn doesn’t have the bell peppers in it it was plain and nearly dry. The rice is yellow . They’re not sticking to the original recipe, see pics. I won’t be returning.
Longer vers: I didn’t grow up with EPL but I got exposed to it in Denver a few years ago and really enjoyed it! I was happy when about a year ago I heard about them looking for space to put the first one in NM/Abq. Little did I know it’d be right down the street from my work! So for about a year now I’ve watched the building being built &when it was announced I’ve been excitedly watching it be transformed into EPL for several months.
I’m GF due to allergies so it helps they have alot of gluten-friendly options. I ordered my food via the kiosk inside at 1:32pm, &received my order at 2:06pm. I was giving them grace since it’s the soft opening &they’re getting the hang of things while alot of people are coming to try it mostly for the first time. So please be kind to the staff for the first month or so while they deal with learning their roles as well as getting the hang of the business. Honestly if you can, just wait a month before you go if you’re too impatient to wait in line (inside or drive-thru). Don’t make their jobs harder than it already is.
My coworker &I parked over by the donut shop (that closes by like noon) &walked over to EPL cause there was limited parking. We knew the parking would be an issue from the get-go, yet another developer underestimating people being excited for new food options here (like a certain other chicken place).
Anyway, if you like a healthier fast food option a la Chipotle but cheaper in price but still good quality, go here. Will be going again for lunch sometime soon
Edit: I got the double chicken bowl, extra rice, no beans, no avo, corn tortillas, side of the creamy cilantro sauce, &horchata.
Service: we were not told they were out of so many things until we tried to order them. (Guac, queso, Chipotle sauce and Ranch..likely was out of other things as well these are what we happened to try and get). My chicken was extremely dry and tiny. There was maybe 2 bites of meat on the wing. The 2 quesadillas didn’t even resemble each other (I didn’t take a picture). One was very small with little filling and the other was moderately filled. It was very inconsistent. They forgot our burrito and never offered dressing for the salad. The chips tasted old like they had been sitting for a while. No substitute offered for the lack of guacamole that came with the 4 meals we ordered. I’ve been here before in California and know how tasty it can be. I’ll come back in a few months to see if they can get their act together otherwise I can’t see this place lasting for very long here.
