El Palenque first opened it’s doors in Knoxville, Tennessee on November of 1981. El Palenque’s popularity grew fast and was fueled by the craze for it’s cheese dip and salsa, traditional Mexican dishes, and inviting family atmosphere. The rapid growth and success encouraged El Palenque to move it’s unique traditional flavors to Nashville, Tennessee. During the year of 1988, El Palenque opened it’s first Nashville location on Nolensville Road. Following in 1990, El Palenque opened up it’s second location in Green Hills where we are still serving our loyal customers to this day.

We had a good time. Our waitress was great. The food was good but a bit salty. We would definitely give this place another shot. The shrimp quesadilla was good

We always appreciate the great food and the atmosphere at El Palenque. It is not as loud or as crowded as other Mexican eateries and the freshly made salsa and tortilla chips are a treat. Parking can be hard to find right outside – additional parking is available around the corner.

Seat yourself restaurant with, in my opinion, speedy service from the waiter. I ordered the Chile Verde which I thought was exceptional. Food was cooked well and was served in a timely manner. Prices were not bad at all! Lunch menu is affordable. They do bring out chips and salsa for you to munch on while you are waiting for your apps and entrees to arrive. I thought the use of Corona bottles as salt and pepper shakers was super adorable and resourceful. If I am ever back in Nashville, I will absolutely head this way.

They will charge 20% service charge for a table of THREE. They don’t have a sign anywhere stating they add it to your bill. I wouldn’t have cared if the service was good, but waitress barely checked on us.

My daughter asked if I could put in a take out order for a burrito with a side of rice and beans. When I went to pick up the order I was told the total was over $20! I asked how much the burrito was and he said $5 plus extra for the rice and beans. When I asked how did the price go from $5 to $20 he said because we asked for lettuce, beans, cheese in the burrito. So $6 to add beans and lettuce in the $5 burrito and $6 for a side of rice and beans (times two). I used to love going to this place pre-Covid.

Great comfort food, Mexican-style. Chicken fajitas are excellent! Chicken soup is also wonderful – fresh and healthy! Owner knows his customers and is interested in their lives. Wait staff is friendly and responsive. A little gem of local ownership in a town that is sadly losing this! We love this place!

Very bad service, people didn’t say hi, no courtesy, no friendly, food didn’t have a good taste

Basic, reliable, fine tasting Mexican food like we grew up with if not a little boring, somewhat dated interior and the price is reasonable for what you get. It’s just not as upscale as some of the newer Mexican dining has become. I do like the ownership and the way they treat their customers.

The food was fine but not for the price. The establishment charged an extra fee for using a credit/debit card and did not inform anyone. The reason that was found out was because the total did not add up, NOT because anyone was going to say anything to me.
