The food was delicious. I only gave this place 4 stars because the refried beans and the rice were eh, ok. Service was amazing, horchata was delicious and served in a cold mug (homemade or high tier liquid mix), carnitas were perfect, salsa and cheese dip were Nom Nom. They also have daily specials on food and drinks. Totally worth the stop.

Not too many times do I say WOW. This was one of those times. What an amazing california chicken burrito.
The workers were very nice and checked on me to make sure everything was great. Even asked if I needed a to go drink. The food tasted excellent and had plenty of it. Salsa was spicy and tasted great. The chips were good. I just wish they were warm.
Highly Recommend

Probably the best carnitas I have ever had. Very home made tasting. Chicken in the flauta was also very good. Nice big chunks of both, not pulverized to bits like some places do.

Friday lunch and not too crowded. We’re had drinks, chips with salsa in seconds. After placing our order it was a short 5-7 minutes and our food arrives hot and wafting with those familiar smells. The lunch chicken fajitas portion was super generous. Priced well at $11. I had the dinner enchilada supreme. Again I was not expecting 5 enchiladas ( I must not have read the menu). But at $14 a generous portion of food. Smart on their part the drinks are super sized and no need for refills. This will be a must stop when traveling through this way again. Well done.

We ordered to go. When we got home one of the entries was missing. Disappointing but not a deal breaker, until we called. The person on the phone was very nasty and said to bring the entire order back. When we got back the staff treated us extremely bad, like we were trying to pull one over. They were plain hateful. We got the missing entree but now all our food was cold. Next time we want Mexican we’ll go somewhere else.

An impromptu stop on our way home from Louisville brought us into El Nopal in Carrollton. Last year, we had eaten at their Eminence location and were blown away by how unexpectedly wonderful our meals were. You see an ordinary looking restaurant in a strip mall in a small town and don’t expect extraordinary food, right? So, we hoped lightning would strike twice for us, and we were not disappointed.

Again, the mundane exterior belied the superb feast that awaited us. The restaurant and bathrooms were spotless. There was a small bar up front and tons of tables and booths. We were impressed how they were spaced out, so tables weren’t right on top of each other. You wouldn’t feel like you’re involuntarily sharing a meal (and conversation) with everyone around you. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, without ever being intrusive.

My husband and I shared a double order of chicken fajitas. Our son ordered three beef soft tacos, and we all shared a bowl of queso. With our chips, our server also brought two salsas: one mild and one medium. Our son was most thrilled that the queso wasn’t thin and runny. It coated the chips on the first dip!

When our food came out, the sweet gentleman delivering it made sure to warn us which plates were dangerously hot and which were warm but safe to touch. I was instantly excited to see such a perfect ratio of chicken to veggies. More often than not, most places pile the skillet with onions, a handful of green peppers, and a paltry amount of chicken. Oh no, not this joint. We were chicken RICH, and the veggies were fresh and plentiful! The plates with our rice, beans, and toppings were generous as well. When we were finishing up and asked for boxes, she also made us drinks to go and thoughtfully brought a bag to help carry our bounty.

This (and the first) experience was such a delight, and I can’t wait to go back. I can’t speak for every El Nopal in KY, but if the other locations are even a fraction as superb as the two we’ve visited, you are in for a treat!!

The front desk woman at the local Holiday Inn recommended the other Mexican place in town. I tried it, and it was terrible! Not only is this place better, it compares favorably with any Mexican place I’ve ever visited. Sure, the atmosphere is very “used to be a Burger King, but the food and service were amazing!!

We were traveling to Louisville and stopped off to find food. We thought we would have to settle for Wendy’s. We saw this place a few down and tried it. Clean bathroom and place, good food and service. Got fajitas for 1 dinner portion to split and was huge. Good food!

Loved the food, our server was so amazing, helpful, and friendly. Suggested guacamole before I could ask which I always like with my chips. Food was excellent and we took some home cause it was a lot. The staff does an amazing job at singing the birthday song which there were 2 when we were there.
