This unpretentious, casual restaurant offers superb Mexican food in a relaxed atmosphere. They specialize in presenting authentic dishes from various areas of Mexico using the freshest of ingredients. The Kaaxil Sikil soup, with pepita (pumpkin seed) dumplings, was delicious, and practically a meal in itself. The scallops in white chocolate mole were superb. Also, I appreciated the very friendly and attentive staff. I wish Alaska wasn’t so far away so that I could visit Saint Louis more often and sample more of these gourmet dishes that are offered at moderate prices. Do not hesitate – enjoy a satisfying meal at this unassuming place.

Unique dishes Yucatán style! April was our awesome server. I had the Relleno Negro. The Cayo de Hacha en Mole Blanco was amazing also but the standout dish was the Tamal Colado appetizer. Definitely check it out for something different than the standard Mexican fare. I’d say the gold standard.

I can’t say enough good things about El Molino. It is, without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in St. Louis. If it was in downtown Chicago, you’d NEVER be able to get in.

You really can’t go wrong with ordering, but I think the octopus cooked in its own ink is a must. This is modern and traditional food from the Yucatan, stuff you’ve never had anywhere else.

I have been going to el Molino since the first opened in the foundry. It has always been very good and if anything has improved! The brothers balance each other so well in providing a great FOH/BOH experience. My partner has celiac so that is a huge pro of el Molino as well.

We went for the valentines day pre fix menu and cannot say enough good things. From the chips and Sikil Pak to the very last bite this meal was incredible.

The scallop in white mole… wow. The turkey mole rosa…wow. The short rib…wow.

If you have not gone you need to go. If the names of menu items intimidate you, don’t let them. Just go!

I would recommend this place to anybody who needs to be gluten free as they have a completely dedicated gluten-free kitchen. If you want authentic, this place has it and it is really good with lots of different choices. The bathrooms are large and accessible, the bar has a beautiful atmosphere and plenty of seating. They have plenty of seating, staff are very attentive. I never ran out of water, or ice for my other drinks, they are also very knowledgeable about their menu and if you tell them what your specific diet is, what might be the most go-to option or which ones to avoid. I have not sat down in a restaurant and had that great of service in a long time and so it was refreshing. They have plenty of outdoor seating as well if it’s a nice day, If you go to St. Louis, this is a must-go-to spot.

I was treated to a celebratory dinner at El Molino to mark a big career milestone, and everything about the evening was perfect. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, the service was great, and the tapas-style Mexican menu made for such a fun and flavorful dining experience.

We shared several small plates, and I highly recommend the stuffed poblano pepper—absolutely packed with flavor. From tacos to shrimp to house cocktails, every dish and sip was on point.

El Molino is a fantastic place for a group night out, especially when you want to try a little bit of everything. The shared plates encouraged conversation, laughter, and lots of “you have to try this!” moments.

Feeling grateful for the amazing company, great food, and a restaurant that helped make the celebration even more special. Already planning my return visit!

If you’re looking for a place that actually transports your taste buds straight to the Yucatán, El Molino del Sureste is it! ✨

The owner is incredibly personable and took the time to walk us through the dishes and flavors like we were guests in his home — major points for that.

We started with chips and a dip… which, honestly, the chips didn’t taste super fresh and the dip wasn’t my jam (but hey, we’re here for honesty, right?).

BUT THEN.
Cue the culinary fireworks.

We ordered the Kaaxil Sikil (pepita dumplings) — little flavor bombs floating in an achiote garlic broth that I wanted to bathe in.

My sister — ever the traditionalist — ordered tacos (of course lol ), while I leveled up with the Huarache de Camote.
Think: a corn base, smoky local sweet potatoes, salsa macha, house-made requesón, fresh oranges, frisée, and herbs — an absolute flavor explosion in every bite.

I was so full but I couldn’t stop eating. (No regrets.) Took a quarter home, reheated it the next day, and it was still slapping.

If you want to try something authentically different, bursting with love, history, and flavor — RUN to El Molino del Sureste. ‍♀️ ️
Your taste buds will thank you.

The food was delightful! Very authentic. My favorite part was easily the explanations of the food. The octopus and beef were so tender- it melted in your mouth! Never once felt rushed. Will decently be back!!
