The service is super fast, and gracious. There wasn’t a moment we had an empty cup, chip basket, or side.
The food however was a bit weak. The chips were fresh, and unsalted. Not an issue if your salsa is great, but I had to put a metric tonne of salt for any flavour, and there was no heat at all. The bean dip was interesting but also lacked flavour.
The main dishes were sizeable, and visually appealing, but again lacked the flavour you think of when you crave Mexican.
Not a bad experience, but definitely made for the Midwest palate
Chips and Salsa: The chips were served with salsa and bean dip. The chips were thick and did not have any salt on them. The salsa was extremely bland and had zero heat. The salsa taste as if it was store bought. The bean dip was the saving grace to the chips, however it isn’t anything that I would specifically come back for, unlike other restaurants we have been to – 1
Lime Margarita on the rocks: These were by far the worst margaritas I have ever had. There was no flavor to it at all and taste like watered down tequila. I had to squeeze some lime that I received with my tacos in my drink to even have a small taste of lime in it – 1

You cannot order just a single taco here. If you want street tacos in comes in an order of three. We ordered the steak tacos and asked for onions and a slice of avocado on each taco and to have the cilantro on the side. We each had a taco and then split the third one. The first taco was flavored well…however the second one was salty, and the further into the taco I went the saltier it got. The third taco was so salty it was making my mouth feel like it was burned. The tortillas were fried up really good, which was the only positive with the taco.

If you want American tacos you cannot get just one, the order comes with two. They do ask if the chicken was wanted to be prepared shredded or grilled, which grilled was ordered. As usual it was ordered with cheese and sour cream. The grilled chicken was flavored very well. Some pieces were dry, but overall the chicken taco was a way different experience than the steak tacos.
Service – our server was very nice and attentive.
The slices of avocado we requested came as a half of avocado slices which we were charged $2.59 for. The sour cream came in a bowl on the side and was $1.69.

El Maya has a breaded fish taco, which is almost always a loosing dish. It comes out soggy and bitter, and over or under cooked… however, today’s fish taco dinner. Wow. We have 4 Ewoks in tote and I almost never begin eating until my family all has a plate, and we have given thanks for our time together, and shown gratitude towards our King. Today we were with a group of 4 families and we all have over children each. So by the time I was able to take my first bite more than only a little time had passed and the fish Still had crispy and crunchy crust around it. And the breading was FULL of fish. These were not wimpy hollow overwhelmingly fried tubes. This was thick with fish, just enough breading, and it stayed crisp. I was shocked. I was prepared to not leave a review based on today’s meal simply because it did sit. Not because the staff were slow either. But because this Ewok needed this, that Ewok needed that, 2 of them needed food cut and one of them is a brand new ‘feed myself ‘ learner, 2 needed to go potty… so if you’re a parent you get it. The wait wasn’t because it took too long. The guacamole was FRESH MADE TO ORDER, and they have one of the best tasting recipes I have eaten in a very very long time. Equal to my last posted favorite by far. I always hail a restaurant who has their own way with guacamole, and if they make it fresh that is another point for certain. This was both their own recipes, made fresh, and also tasted really great. 4 of the other adults with us had a favorite dish they order every time they go here, or that I understood. The remaining adults all had several dishes they boasted about, and no one didn’t eat their portion enough to have questioned whether or not their meals were delicious as well. Not to mention everyone’s Ewoks ate whay they ordered and enjoyed themselves too.
The staff was a welcoming as if you were visiting a friend’s family for your meal and visit. Every other family we were with have been there before and our server knew their children and even to which parents they belonged! The 3 men who took are of us coordinated and communicated and we had no need untouched. And though they did not pestered us, we would have welcomed it. They were not only friendly but also personable and pleased to share the time with us. As we left one gentleman said, “I am glad I am glad, this is your place. When you come here you make this your place.” And like I already stated, it was as though we were known, welcomed and wanted. Like visiting a friend’s family for dinner.
We will be returning here with our family as a group again. What a nice experience.
Staff is excellent and the service is great!
