Today I was able to go to El Matador in Bountiful after being told it is one of the best Mexican restaurants around. I am sad to say, I did not experience anything other than ordinary here. They offer lots of options so I would say they have a good menu, I chose the Mamacita. The portion size was good, but the flavor basically bland, but you could tell fresh meat was being used. I did ask my friends (7 of us went in total) about their experience and sadly none of them really raved about the food or experience.

We’ve been coming here for the past three years. During Covid they wouldn’t seat you if all members weren’t at the restaurant at the time to be seated; which I understood; however, when my family and I went last Friday at 4:00 the hostess watched us come in as she was getting ready to take the guests in front of us to their table. My husband went to the restroom. When the hostess returned and asked how many of us she told me she could not seat us until all of us were there. I explained my husband was in the restroom and the hostess said she couldn’t seat us until he was out. I would maybe understand her request if they were busy but they weren’t. There literally had 4-5 tables of guests in the entire restaurant. After we were seated, about 20 minutes later we watched her seat another table and about 10-15 minutes later the table had there other guests show up. When the hostess seated them she placed menus at the empty seats. Very disappointing. There were only 3 of us in our party. The table which came in after us had about 6-7 people.

Matador doesn’t miss!!! Maria’s enchiladas are my go to, and the chili verde is the absolute best! The Sopaipilla‘s are beyond! Always great service as well. I’ve been eating there since I was a kid and my family would go, so happy they’re still around!

Service was good. Table comes with chips and warm salsa. Salsa is tasty. Got the Especial with 3 different meats to try things out. Sweet pork was good. Ground beef was alright (tried someone else’s dish). Chicken and shredded beef were meh. Others at my table got the citrus pork tacos and said they were pretty good. Place is pretty clean. Would eat there again.

First time coming here. Atmosphere and service were wonderful! Food was okay. The salsa is served warm and tasted like marinara sauce. The chips had a weird flavoring, seemed like black pepper flakes. The combo just wasn’t for me. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and it was the crispest one I’ve ever had, which I appreciated. But I couldn’t taste the enchilada sauce they put on it. Only tasted chicken and the tortilla. I probably wouldn’t return because for the same price I can get more flavorful Mexican food elsewhere.

My husband has a deadly allergy to chicken. We always tell the wait staff so they make sure there’s no cross contamination. We went to dinner here last night. We told them about the allergy & the waitress just told us she’d “try” to let the cooks know. My husband never orders rice because it’s often made with chicken broth. When his meal was served, it was obvious that they added rice to the plate & just scooped it off when they realized their mistake. He ordered cheese enchiladas & there was a random piece of meat on his plate. Thank God it was pork. No care was taken when making his food.

I came here tonight and it was pretty busy. We had a wait time of around 40 minutes. We have a large family so it was understandable. I had never been here before but heard raving reviews about it. The atmosphere was really dark and dull, and the waiter seemed exceedingly bothered with us. He acted like he was doing a chore the whole time he served us. When we asked him for a refill on the water he asked “I’m confused, you want water for…?” The food was okay, nothing special. The chips were stale and I could have probably gotten more tasty food at Del Taco to be honest. Our bill was $140, and I definitely don’t think it was worth that. Overall the experience was simply mediocre at best.

We ate there last night and had a great experience. Our server, Logan, was so on top of things without being over-bearing. Never had an empty glass, and food came out hot. Very friendly service and excellent food.

Took about 15 minutes to get seated at lunch (party of 7.) Waiter wasn’t the best. Took a while to get our drink order, even longer to get the drinks, and even longer to take our order. My order came out wrong, which wasn’t a huge deal. The waiter only checked my drink once. Food itself didn’t have a ton of flavor either. The best part of the experience was the cherry coke though
