We moved to Morganton 6 years ago from Asheville, AKA food city. We are big foodies and nothing met our expectations until El Maiz. Authentic and delicious every single time. The staff is pleasant every single time and the atmosphere is happy and inviting. They upgraded furniture and that makes it even better. El Maiz is 100% the best Mexican you will eat in Burke County.

My first time eating here today, I am still in here right now. I live 2 hours away, just wanted to eat while we were out this way. I am not lying, I am not kidding. This is the best tasting, cheapest Mexican food I have ever had. It’s such a good restaurant and I was scared because its small and a hole in the wall! Do not discriminate, I promise you this place is amazing. Just give it a shot, if I am lying, review it bad yourself but I am not lying and you will be amazed too as I was. I got the ACP Texano and it was $11… Shrimp, Steak, Chicken, Broccoli, Zucchini (I asked for Broccoli and Zucchini but they added it for free) cheese, amazingness.

In my opinion this is the best Hispanic restaurant in Morgantown. The food is well prepared and service is always quick and efficient. I love the guacamole. Evey meal we have had there has been good. If I had any complaints it would be the use of cheese sauce over real cheese. But all in all I find this to be an excellent restaurant

Only Mexican restaurant that we frequently go to. Food is consistently good. Service is great and very friendly. They are quick to seat and serve you as well. Strongly recommended the quesabirria tacos, and the chips and salsa are addictive. Looking forward to many more great meals here!

Came here before they renovated and changed their name and menu. The food was excellent before the changes and still is currently! Large portion sizes, fair and affordable prices, and super friendly staff! Love the homemade tortilla with no extra charge! Sauces are readily available in dining room too. Highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed!

We absolutely love the food here. Wish the service was a little bit better but the staff is super friendly. We did have to constantly ask for refills on our drink and it was so loud in there. We could barely hear ourselves, but it’s still some of the best Mexican food in Morganton in my opinion.
