Very relaxed setting for a holiday Sunday morning. The tortillas are fresh and handmade which punches up the flavors a notch. Carnitas was very savory! No problem getting seating and service. Parking is abundant and free in the strip mall setting. If you want some tasty tacos and chill vibe, come here for sure!

I am trying new restaurants with my son and ended up at El Maestro. My son ordered a shrimp burrito el Diablo and he couldn’t eat it, because it was too hot. Later, we looked at what was inside the burrito, and besides the sauce being hot, the cook chopped up raw Serrano chiles raw with the seeds, and no wonder it was so incredibly hot!! Wow, the veins and seeds are fire. I ordered an enchilada, and the sauce was not authentic, and the tamale was better. It comes with what looked like 3 to 4 tablespoons of beans, lacking flavor with Spanish rice, and the rice was hard and old. If you want good Mexican food, Adelitas in Campbell is the best so far on my list… I definitely won’t come back here again. I’m very disappointed.
I won’t even mention the fact that an entire family was served before we were, and we ordered way before the family was seated.
It’s just not worth it. Save your money$$$

The food was super good. I got the enchilada plate with a chicken tamale. The horcharta here was amazing. The vibe is solid and makes you feel at ease.

Great food and venue. 2 or 3 item combos and 4 or 5 meats to choose from. Clean and welcoming atmosphere. I really like the food compared to more expensive Mexican menu.

Pretty good spot. Solid Mexican food, not a taqueria though. There’s a bar and TVs that are showing games most of the time. The combo plates are worth it. Pass on the guacamole. Salsa is decent. Service is really nice.

The food here is fresh and delicious. The service is also very good. It’s my go to for local Mexican cuisine. Its nice to have another authentic Mexican restaurant in Almaden.

I have been trying out many chimichangas in the Bay Area. Most of them have too thick tortilla. El Mastro had thin tortilla which was great. However the meat inside wasn’t tasty and below expectations. The best chicken chimichangas ever was in Chico, CA, but sadly that restaurant has closed down.

Ever since they changed owners, it’s been a hit or miss with both food and service.
However this is my better go to Mexican food restaurant compared to others. Ambiance is mellow.

The jalepano margaritas are the best and the food is fantastic. They’ve done a fantastic job with the outdoor space and to go orders.
