When I searched Google Maps for a Mexican restaurant in the Overseas Market, it directed me here, even though there’s actually a Mexican restaurant almost next door. While El Habanero does serve tacos, burritos, and other familiar Mexican dishes, it is primarily a Cuban restaurant.
With that said, the food was good—but not spicy at all. They provide Louisiana hot sauce on the tables if you want to add some kick to your tacos. I ordered four chicken tacos, which were fine but lacked any heat. My wife had the fried ribs with rice, black beans, and a couple of plantains, and those were excellent—especially the plantains, which I really enjoyed.
Our total for both meals came to $31. Ordering is done at the counter, and then they bring the food to your table. The seating area inside is very limited, with a capacity of only 28.
If you’re in the mood for Cuban food, this is a good spot. If you’re craving authentic spicy Mexican food, though, you may want to look elsewhere

I just ordered, sat down and already feel good about this restaurant. Customer service is on point! Very friendly, brought my coffee to me and is delicious. It’s small, nice and ordered the breakfast special. Pictures to follow. I just finished eating the breakfast special and this is a must visit! I will be back – no need to look anywhere else. The coffee that I ordered was a favorite.
