If i could leave a one star review, I would. I only came to this restaurant since it was near my house. I ordered 3 pupusas and sopa de res. The 3 pupusas was fine but the sopa de res is just not good at all. I ordered to go and paid $16 for the soup. It’s purely all vegetables barely any of the soup itself. In other restaurants they give you more of everything all together. This one is just all vegetables barely any meat as you can see and the smallest piece of corn. Not even a side of rice to put in the soup. I do not recommend buying this as you will just be wasting your money. Especially if it’s to go since they just fill the cup all up with vegetables. I called to complain about it and while I was speaking with the lady on the phone she hung up on me. Very unprofessional and rude. Hopefully the owner sees this and hires someone more professional. I don’t recommend this restaurant and this will be the first and last time I’ll be coming here…. Instead I recommend y’all to go to the Chicken House Bakery in culmore instead because you will be getting your moneys worth for this soup for the same price over there with a bigger soup enough for 2-3 people.

Terrible food quality, and kind of expensive for the amount of food they serve. I’ve been to this location a few times, and there’s always something wrong with my orders. This time, I wanted to try their Tacos Dorados, and they gave just fried tortilla with a bunch of nonsense cabbage, I really do not recommend this restaurant. If you can call it like this, they just want to rip off your packets

I ordered the birria tacos and they were fantastic! The beef was very delicious and juicy, the taco shell perfectly fried. The hostess was very pleasant and helpful. They have great spanish/Latino music that made the experience fun. I highly recommend Guanaquito!

No frills quiet restaurant. The birria tacos tasted better than the pupusas. The pupusas were thin and the mix lacked flavor.

I ordered the carne guisado and it was Delicious. Just the best flavor with tender chunks of stewed beef with potatoes and carrots that was seved hot, along with rice which I mixed into the stew, and a salad that was very fresh with tasty light dressing. It also came with black beans and warm tortillas. I honestly savored every bite and will be back for more. Delivered to my home so had no rating on the space.

I’ve ordered twice in the past two months. Great people, freshly made food. Was even better the second time I ordered. I can see and really appreciate the effort they are making. And I love having a local place to get pupusas!

The worst service in the world, waiting time is like an eternity, the food is given to you raw and they give preference to large orders.
I ordered takeout by calling 20 minutes before and when I arrived they told me that my order was not ready. 20 more minutes passed and I only asked for my money back and when I complained, the waitress gave me a horrible attitude and told me that she would give me cold food, they only prioritize higher orders.
They should train their staff better.
and the food is the worst.
not recommend this place

If you’re on the hunt for the best birria tacos in the DMV area, look no further than El Guanaquito in Alexandria, VA. This spot is an absolute gem!
From the moment you walk in, the cozy, welcoming atmosphere sets the stage for an incredible dining experience. The staff is super friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home.
Now, let’s talk about those birria tacos. They’re nothing short of spectacular. The tortillas are perfectly crispy, the meat is tender and flavorful, and the consommé? Simply divine. It’s rich and savory, perfect for dipping. Each bite is a burst of flavors that keeps you coming back for more.
El Guanaquito nails the balance of authentic Mexican flavors with a unique twist that sets them apart. It’s clear they take pride in their craft, and it shows in every taco they serve.
Whether you’re a birria taco aficionado or just looking to try something new, El Guanaquito is a must-visit. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
