Tonight I had a half a chicken, all dark. My sides were the veggie mix and brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts have a little kick to them. The veggie mix is so tasty, though I normally am not a fan of such mixes. I feel like I’m eating healthy.
I also got a house salad with steak on top. I really enjoy their salads, especially a side salad, but this location ALWAYS forgets the salad dressing. Tonight I texted the driver and asked him to remind them about the dressing. For the first time ever I got my dressing. For this I gave them a 2 for service. If the manager explains the importance of dressing on salads to the staff, I will happily move service to a 4. We will see what future deliveries will hold.
I also realized that this was a Peruvian place when I saw the menu dishes amongst the burritos and tacos, and also realized my dish is a style called Chifa, a hybrid cuisine created by Chinese immigrants to Peru over 100 years ago. I had food from another location some time ago at a friend’s house and tried the roast chicken which you can see in the rotisserie. I highly recommend eating here. Nice, clean dining room, and as an added bonus, they had a tv playing YouTube videos of a Peruvian farmer living off the land, doing his thing!
The ceviche was on point. Cold and refreshing and perfectly balanced salt and lime. The leche de tigre was spicy and flavorful. I asked for it super spicy and you could really taste the roccoto and aji limo. The camote ( sweet potato) was tender and flavored well. The canchita was brilliantly roasted and seasoned well. The seafood was very great, it wasnt todays, catch but you can tell it was great quality, definately higher $15.95, it was on par with ceviches in Miami, D.C., etc.
The pollo a la brasa was juicy and flavored well. Roasted perfectly. The Aji sauces (green and amarillo) have always been great here as well.
My only thing with El Gran Pollo is I wish, since they are local, that they offered my criolla Peruvian dishes like arroz con mariscos, seco de carne, papa a la huancaina, causa, etc…. other than that…. what they do cook, they cook very well.
Very diverse menu, definitely will go back to try more.
