Solid fajitas, the El Gallo dip is really good, margaritas are what you can expect- I had the regular rita rocks/salt and it was pretty good in spite of being a mix (i’m comparing it to Lupe‘s house margarita, which is made with lime juice). Good service and will be back.

A classic TexMex restaurant with a vintage atmosphere. The lunch specials were inexpensive and fresh with generous portions. Service was very quick and attentive. And my absolute favorite feature is the gorgeous painting on the far wall. This place was my husband’s family’s favorite TexMex restaurant when he was a kid in the early 2000s. He said it has hardly changed at all and its very nostalgic. We hope to come back soon!

I’ve been coming to the Gessner location since 1973 and this is the first time I’ve been completely disappointed with the food. The queso was like water, the chips were stale and cardboard tasting and the salsa was awful. Service was very slow. What happened to our old El Gallo? I’m not sure if I’ll come back since there isn’t quality control.

El Gallo has been around since 1971. First thing I noticed as I sat enjoying my chips and salsa was the amount of regulars in the restaurant. The waiters knew the customers by first name. Right away I knew why it was successful for a long time. The chips are very good. Thin and crispy and go perfectly with the salsa. The salsa is light but tasty. It’s not overpowered with salt and other seasonings. The charro beans were decent. But the rice! Rice was too notch. Fluffy and moist. It was perfect. The tacos were good too. The meat was seasoned perfectly and soft. The flour tortilla was a little undercooked. But overall, I was very happy with this place and I would recommend it.

So…the margaritas are great…the guacamole was fresh…but we could not order food. My friend is allergic to mold. Within 10 minutes he could not breathe. If you suffer from allergies to mold, it’s best you not come out here because you will walk out with full blown allergy attack. I don’t understand how the health inspector doesn’t address this. How the owner doesn’t take pride in their restaurant and fixes this issue. How they sleep at night knowing their employees breathe this air in for 8+ hours a day. I rarely give one star reviews but this place needs to know.
