Had lunch at El Fogon and enjoyed an asada torta and al pastor street tacos—both flavorful and fresh. The horchata was decent but tasted like a powder mix. Overall, solid spot for tacos and a quick lunch, would come back for the food!

I can’t even remember the last time I was really impressed by Mexican restaurant, so this spot really took me by surprise. Simple menu but it has everything I’d want. Delicious tacos, flavors were all on point (carne asasa, al pastor, barbacoa and chicken). Tasty salsa bar options. Horchata was great too, not overly sweet, just the way I prefer.
Beyond this, we received outstanding service — efficient and friendly. We will absolutely be returning.

Some of the best tacos you can find in the area. A great place that gets you food fast and for a good price. Sitting in a little taco place next to a grocery store has a certain charm that not much can top. I highly recommend El Fogon.

They close way too early. I get off work at 730. By the time I get here to enjoy some of their food, they are closed. It sucks because there are people still eating inside obviously they probably got their orders beforehand, but it just sucks. Why not close at like 9 o’clock or 10 o’clock like a normal shop. Every time I walk in their sign says still open there’s people still eating. Nobody says anything until I’ve been standing at the front register for a couple minutes and then they say oh yeah we’re closed. But their sign is still open. It sucks because for the people that work at night and want to come enjoy this food we can’t because you guys wanna close so damn early

Delicious! Loved the little salsa bar. The spicy means SPICY and I loved it! Barbacoa is on spot! I also loved the lil store that had my fixings of tamarind candies. Super clean as well. Worth every penny.

So good! I had the carnitas tacos and they were so good! I love adding extra lime to mine and they gave me plenty. The small market next door is also really nice

The cashier was sooo nice and friendly to us, the food we ordered was not good. Steak nachos in a small foil container no flavor, steak quesadilla no comment, burrito bowl was excellent n the steak burrito the steak has no flavor… We won’t go back, not worth the 45.00 we spent

Outstanding food with a terrific selection of salsas. The service is always excellent, and I am grateful the staff is never judgemental when I come in multiple days in a row.

Would recommend. Al Pastor? Yes. Not pork Barbacoa? Yes. Tortas? Yes. Multiple salsa and smothering options including green chile sauce? Yes.

Small dive in the middle of commercial Overland Park serving some good non-commercial Mexican, next to it’s own grocery store. It’s good to see places do more than just beef or chicken tacos and burritos. And, of course, El Fogon would. They’re anti-commercial Mexican enough that they do NOT have ground beef.

Pluses on the food? Barbacoa is beef (nice). Had a great flavor too. Fresh. Maybe a bit light in the burrito, but good otherwise. The beans and rice were fantastic in the burrito too. Usually places dont care about these ingredients and they are low quality. Not here. It really added to the meal.

Steak meat had a great seasoning and makes for great tortas or tacos.

The dining area was a bit small and cramped. I banged into a chair at another table a couple of times. Might be nice to have the store and restaurant run together. They were walled off though. They need just a bit more space to be comfortable.

Service was fine. On the plus side, food was out quick. They had self-service salsa. On the negative side, the Chips and Salsa order ($2.99) felt a bit light. It’s a small carton to begin with, but it was maybe 2/3 full.

All around good place to get a bite with decent ambience. 4.33 and we’ll round up to 5.

This is a great little place – authentic, not Tex-mex. Just had the chili rilleno burrito and loved it. The flavors are on point and the meat is tender; tortillas are the right texture and taste. It’s not fancy, but it’s not dirty or dingy either.
