Social Profile:

Very few restaurants have the staying power to celebrate even a quarter-century of service, but El Fenix celebrated their Centennial! Founded in 1918, by Mike Martinez, a Mexican immigrant, El Fenix is credited as “The Originator of Tex-Mex Cuisine.” It has been named an “All American Icon” by Nation’s Restaurant News and a must-see dining destination for visitors to North Texas. Acquired by Local Favorite Restaurants(TM) in 2008, El Fenix was refurbished with freshened interiors and a revamped menu, while maintaining its signature authentic elements.

Branch of a long-running chain serving Tex-Mex staples in a hacienda-style setting.

Overall the experience was very good. The food tasted good and the portion sizes are more than reasonable for the prices. I was warmly greeted when I walked in and thanked as I left. The waiter was very polite, professional and made recommendations. However, I was there during happy hour and ordered a margarita and instead of asking he just brought me the most expensive one instead of the house and happy hour one. He also got my entree order wrong but did correctly and promptly have it fixed. When he came to check on me instead of stopping to ask and inquire he just did a walk bye (asking if everything is alright while never stopping). To me this is not personal and one of the traits that differentiates between a good server and a great server. I had the combo fajitas.

Gone here a handful of times over the last couple of years and I’ve always been satisfied. Good food and good service! It reminds me of my late grandmother as she loved this place. I have great memories of going here with her and my boyfriend. Definitely recommend the fajita chicken enchiladas!! Never change El Fenix…never change.

As good as I remembered from the last time I ate here years ago. Still love their Enchiladas (cheese and onion ones are the ones I grew up in and was craving). Still worth the trip from Round Rock (and Idaho before that) to show my daughter one of the places that I grew up eating at. She loved it as well.

Hadn’t been to an El Fenix since the one in Denton closed. It used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant, but not so today. I stopped at the Forest location when I saw it on the way back from an appointment in Dallas, anxious to have one of my old favorite selections, the fish tacos. Unfortunately, the fish was more like fish tails hard fried instead of the plump juicy tender bits I remember. Maybe it was just a one-off bad day for the cook, but disappointing. The service was friendly and efficient. The guacamole, chips and queso never disappoint.

Don’t let the warehouse-like exterior turn you off from eating here; the food is good, the portions are plentiful, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. For instance, I asked for a side of mole with my steak fajitas and we worked out that I would pay for a side of soup but get a side of mole. It was a wonderful interaction. I will definitely be going back

First it started out with them not allowing us to order from the kid menu. I have had bariatric surgery so I cannot eat those giant portions. They told me to order a la carte. Well, no where on their menu did they have a la carte items so I decided not to order. When the other received their one was wrong and cold. They brought out another plate and it was beef instead of pork and not edible. It was a terrible experience and wast of money. HOWEVER their chips were actually bomb.

I’ve been dining at El Fenix since I was a kid. The appetizer sampler is one of my favorite but I love the tortilla soup. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.

The presence of El Fenix has been a part of Dallas culture since 1918. Catering, dine-in and curbside pick-up. Quick service and delicious food. Traditional Mexican Food, unlimited chips and salsa. A small benefit worth it, as some places charge for chips now. In addition to a traditional menu they have street tacos and El Pastor, (pork). I went with the Juarez and my husband got fajita beef nachos. The food came quickly and it was hot! Yum. We got a fresh basket of chips and more salsa too! We ate too much, but didn’t eat it all. They gave us a to go container and a bag for the chips! They sale their chips, salsa and pecan pralines by the cashier where you pay. Overall a great visit. We’re definitely going to return. P.S. hand sanitizer was posted throughout the restaurant including in the restrooms.
