We were visiting the beach and looked this restaurant up and we were so happy we did.
It may not “look” like much from the outside but inside they are on point!
We were greeted immediately upon entry and sat down almost immediately in an accommodating booth for a family of 6!
Our waitress was pleasant and professional ☺️. We were served warm chips and fresh dip.
Food was delicious.

If we visit Emerald Isle again we will return.

We stopped on our way home from boot bairn on a whim. we decided on mexican cuisine and luckily pulled in to the first one we could find. It was a rainy early Sunday afternoon 3pm. We were greeted warmly like long lost family. The food was like Nana was in the the back cooking away happily. It is a 40 min drive from my house but it is worth the trip. Can’t wait to go back and try some of the apps.

My wife and I decided to go out for supper and wanted some Mexican food. We have been to El Catrin before but not in awhile. We ordered ACP and the waitress asked if we wanted vegetables with it. We said yes. This was the best ACP we have ever had. We shared the meal and there was still food on the plate. Waitress was wonderful and the facility is very clean and decorated very well.

We really enjoyed the food here. It was opening day, but I think everything went really well.
The portions on the tacos were great – lots of meat, so I left full and content.
The atmosphere is brighter than expected, but we like it. The light fixtures above the tables are really cool! (See pic) They give a nice vignette effect to the pics at the table.
I recommend it. We’ll definitely be back.

Great service and atmosphere.
Food had no flavor and had a pile of grease and charred veggies I had pineapple and smothered pork chop platter . I wish it was better so I want to come back but it is definitely not mucho bueno or patron. I may have just caught the end of their busy day but it was bland. I ate everything as I don’t believe in wasting food . Especially on Valentine’s evening.

El Catrin restaurant is decorated very fun. It has a nice energy and is clean. The service is great. The people are very nice. I enjoyed the experience.
The food leaves something to be desired. I feel like everything was underseasoned. The beans and rice could have used some salt. I had the birria tacos and they were very good. However, the consume’ was mostly grease and I couldn’t dip my tacos like I wanted to without eating a bunch of grease. The tacos themselves were good enough not to need the consume’ though.
Overall, it was pretty good. It could be better with some seasoning.

Will never go back! Service was terrible and the food was just OK. Waitress never brought our alcohol drinks and that was the first thing that was ordered. Steak burritos are weird fake like steak bites not like the real fajita steak. Orderd caso and never got it. They were not busy so no excuse as far as service. The one good thing was it was nice looking and clean inside. Stick with El Cerro! Trust me

Highly recommended!!! Came here today for the first time, and I must say that this is hands down the best Mexican food in Swansboro and Emerald Island. The customer service is superb, the food was absolutely delicious, decently priced and large portions portions. My husband had the El Catrin special, which was amazing, and I had the chicken soup which it was probably the best that I’ve had so far in a Mexican restaurant. We’re definitely coming back!

Wonderful festive atmosphere. Very friendy and attentive staff. The hand made fresh flour tortillas are excellent. My chimi was made to order with my special requests. The menu is big with lots to choose from. This will become my Mexican staple here.

We visited El Catrin and had a nice experience. The staff were friendly; they greeted us at the door and seated us promptly. We had a larger party of 7 and our food was served quickly. I ordered the fajitas and received a generous portion size. It was warm and tasted great!
They have ample seating, including a bar area with current games or events playing on the TV.
