I’m not very familiar with more traditional Mexico City cuisine, so we found it so helpful that our server was so open and kind in explaining all of the dishes and answering our questions.

Excellent experience overall. We started off by getting a drink at the bar. The bartender was nice enough to make my wife something that wasn’t on the menu and it tasted really nice. Axel was our server. He was very courteous and friendly and knew the menu well. All the items we ordered were extremely good especially the one hitters. The least favorite item was the duck confit.. which had a overly strong molé taste. Mexican chocolate was also “ordinary” and we expected it to pop like the other items we ordered.

El Carlos Elegante was such a wonderful experience! The interior of the restaurant was so beautiful! We were seated in the front area of the restaurant, which was so cozy with the fireplace running. I felt like I escaped to an Arizona dessert for dinner!

A culinary gem tucked ever so neatly in the Design District. My girlfriend and I are big foodies and this is truly a carefully curated culinary adventure. We tried new things and loved it all. The servers were extremely knowledgeable and even gave us a few personal twists on the cocktail menu, which had us wondering why those variations aren’t offered on the written menu! I can’t complain one bit. Ambiance is wonderful and the patio is truly where it’s at! If you can get seating there, do it. Decent parking, valet available and they’re great as well. Would we come back?! We’re already talking about coming back to try more! HIGHLY recommend!

Fabulous vibe and food. Definitely get Diana’s ceviche, the sweet potatoes, the halibut, the guajillo chicken and the Jamaica mezcal cocktail.

Hits and misses, the place is nice and well decorated, but it is quite loud, wish they would play Mexican music so it could contribute more to the experience. The food comes in relatively small sizes, so a party of 2 can easily order 4 or 5 dishes. We order the beet salad, prawn ceviche, guajillo chicken, and the duck tlacoyo. The ceviche and the tlacoyo definitely stood out and the highlights of the night. The average was the chicken, it was super juicy and tender but the mole lacked flavor. I’m not into beets really, so uninteresting to me. For dessert we had the coffee tamale, which was kind of raw and cold, not even close to being good. The cocktails were expensive and not memorable. So, again, hits and misses, we will try again as we are curious to try the osso bucco and some of the other homemade masa dishes.

Our most recent visit here was even better than the last. The dining room was buzzing at 8pm on a Thursday and all of the food items were absolutely delicious. The Pork Al Pastor was the standout, and may be one of the best pork chops I’ve ever eaten. Service was casual and friendly, but very efficient. The cocktail program is fabulous as well. We will definitely be back soon.

The service was great, everyone welcomed us as we walked past the hostess stand to our table. The ambience was nice, very cozy and eclectic but still very Texan. The food was better than expected. It was filling and every dish was interesting. I think some might hesitate because there are pre-Hispanic dishes on the menu that aren’t well-known to the average American. However, everything was flavorful and filling. Drinks need some work, but they were strong. Overall, very pleasantly surprised for a group that specializes in Italian food. If you haven’t checked out The Charles, Sister or Cafe Duro, you should. Every place is unique and they pay attention to the details.

Surprisingly good! I came here prejudging it would be just another “fancy and pretentious” instagramming latino restaurant in dallas. But the cocktails and food was awesome! The portions are small but it is ok to ask different dishes and try them. A bit pricy compared with other good restaurants but totally worth it. Beef ceviche and pork al pastor are a must!

We tried El Carlos on date night and it did not disappoint. Food was different than what we’re used to but delicious. We were surprised with a beet side dish on the house which is a must try! For dessert the sweet chocolatey tamale with atole is a must try as well. Staff was so friendly and attentive and the place was was beautifully decorated. Must also brag on the valet. They saw us walking out and remembered us. Before we made it to the valet stand they were already pulling our car up!
