My friend suggested we meet here for lunch, and I was greeted warmly and given a table near the door so I could be on lookout for my friend. I enjoyed chatting with the wait staff who checked on me to make sure I had chips, salsa and a drink before my friend arrived. The ambiance was comfortable with cozy, large booths and assorted Mexican decor, including some weird little surprises such as miniature Disney characters randomly placed up on a high shelf. My friend told me that he chose this restaurant because it is one of the top 2 best Mexican restaurants in Indio (and there are a LOT), and because they don’t play music so loud that you have to shout to have a conversation. I ordered the crunchy shredded beef taco plate and it was just how I like them. I highly recommend El Campanario!

The best true Mexican restaurant in the Coachella. The menu has many entrees that you don’t normally find in a Mexican restaurant. But they also have the standard fare. They have several seafood dishes, fish, shrimp and more nearly all costing less than $20. Not fancy, but great food and service.

Great food everything was delicious. Our server Elizabeth (Liz) was very attentive and accommodated all our special requests. The Molitor and Margaritas were top notch. No complaints here!

Was staying in a nearby hotel. Ordered chicken fajitas to go. Hardly any wait time, good sized very, very flavorful! Looks like a great local place. I would come back.

Cane here around 11 am and we were say right away. It wasn’t busy we were greeted in a welcoming manner. Music was playing not to loud just the right volume to have a conversation. They served us chips and salsa.
We then ordered the molcajete Mar y tierra and the combination plate along with a hibiscus and an ice tea. It was hot and ready to eat. It was very satisfying and delicious. Recommend it. They have a variety of traditional Mexican dishes. They have a big bar and plenty of seating for large groups to accommodate.

The food was very good, and came out pretty quickly. The salsa they give you for the chips is really good. The building might seem packed in the parking lot, but the inside is very roomy. I would recommend the green sauce over the red to anyone who is ordering enchiladas or a wet burrito.

Great first experience with this restaurant. Coctel sauce was a little too sweet but adding hot sauce made it! Margaritas are strong and cold. We will return to try more of the menu.

This was a really impressive restaurant. The menu had all the mainstays of Southern Californian Mexican food, but it was also packed with gems you don’t often see at other places. The chiles güeritos, stuffed with shrimp and cheese and roasted, were particularly impressive. I can imagine sitting at the bar and enjoying a large plate of these with a couple of cold beers. Our entrees were also wonderful: birria de chivo and tampiqueña, and the handmade tortillas really shone. The service was impeccable. Our server, a friendly young woman, readily and warmly provided recommendations, and she helped us find an out of the way outside table, in order to accommodate out large dog, whose birthday we were celebrating. We’re looking forward to finding another excuse to come to Indio, so we can explore more of the extensive menu at this top-notch desert restaurant.
