There’s nothing like old school, coffee, old school, breakfast and old school customer service with a smile and this place has it all you can always come in out of the cold into a warm welcoming and a hot cup of coffee. Service is top notch and always always always smiles.

Please do not ever change!! Your food is authentic and savory, tastes like homemade food. So many restaraunts cater to a tourist pallette it’s nice to know there’s a place that still hits a homerun with home food! Chile still has a Lil bite.. please stay the same. With all the gentrification going on in los ranchos im glad to see this place remains!

The food and friendly service at the historic El Camino never disappoints. There are only about a dozen tables and it can get crowded, but it hasn’t changed in the 20+ years we’ve been going. Food took a while this time (they were down a cook)– but it was worth the wait. Red chile, carne adovada, home fries and chicharonnes…

First time going to El Camino. Ordered the breakfast plate ( I asked for carne asada, 2 scrambled eggs, with papas fritas, dish came with a flour tortilla). My plate came and it looked totally disgusting! Eggs were finely chopped, red chili was runny and kind of clear. Large chunks of pork looked appetizing until I ate one. A peculiar taste it had, not a spoiled taste, just kind of odorous, gamey taste. I quickly spit that piece out, ate a day old thinly sliced potato but it also had that peculiar odd taste. Long story short, 15 minutes of sitting there NOT EATING, waitress finally stops at my table, asks how’s everything? I calmly and politely tell her the food tasted terrible and before I could say another word, she volunteered information how the asada was fresh, as she cooked it herself, 2 days earlier. She never apologized and was visibly mad that I insulted her food. She did not charge me for the order. Arrived there HUNGRY….. left there STARVING.. scale of 1 to 10… I give them a zero

We saw this intriguing place while running errands balloon week, and decided to come back and try it. Good move. The decor is well maintained original 1950 Southwestern roadhouse. “The Mother Road” had already been realigned off 4th street a decade prior, so the name seems to be a nostalgia play, 75 years old.
This is a friendly place to experience genuine New Mexico fare. It is a generational family business that makes you feel like a regular on the first visit.
The food was very good. The selection was broad enough to give options to the anti-mexican-food person in your group. The salsa was as good as it looked when it arrived with fresh chips. I should have taken a photo for this. Portions were generous. They must have gotten a deal on beef, because my “6 oz” steak was probably twice that. Allyson’s Indian taco was a good representative of the dish. Tony said his chicken fried steak was “maybe the best I’ve had.” Brewed ice tea arrived in a 28 ounce tumbler. The Red gets mixed reviews, I see. To each their own. It’s good, gently hot, not punishment. I didn’t try the green.
The Dining Room is normally a lunch operation. Hours posted were 10 am to 2 pm. It is an 8 minute bike trip from our regular campsite. I expect to return more than once.

The macho burrito is huge and delicious! Green Chile has a slight kick, others in my family say it is spicy. It’s a Cafe style dining room. The whole family enjoys coming for breakfast!
The fried potatoes for breakfast are delicious!

Solid and local lil diner to visit maybe once for the nostalga. Food is solid with good portions but great New Mexican food is simple and not over the top so it should be priced accordingly, not a great value. Service and prep is a lil slow for what is offered. The monster burrito is worth getting for 2-3 people to share. Mano a mano…I’d consider other options in the North Valley or nearby like Lavender Cocinita, Hannah & Nates, Sadies, Vics, Ramonas, etc.

Been here a few times as I can only make it here when I’m passing through ABQ before 2pm. I love the retro atmosphere and the wonderfully prepared food. The staff is friendly and all the food is perfectly seasoned and served in large portions. I’ve had the carne asada burrito as well as the carne adovada enchiladas. Both came with pinto beans (not refried) and potatoes (sliced and fried) as well as a choice of red or green sauce, but only an animal wouldn’t choose both. Items from the dinner menu also come with a bowl of stew which was a pleasant bonus.
I need to try some breakfast choices next time I come through.

First time eating here and it did not disappoint!! I had the huevos rancheros and everything was delicious. Portions are plenty so you will have some to take home.
Best part is the owner and family are so sweet and attentive. Will eat here again and again and again.

Watered down coffee, waterdown creamer, instant country time lemonade, highly overpriced food (I could’ve ate seafood for a couple bucks more!) No chips and salsa while you wait for a long time for your food??? If you are a big person or in a wheelchair… you will not fit through the bathroom door. It’s so tiny! Soup from a can!!! Really?! They just add green chile to their store bought soup in a can. I eat out quite often and I can tell the difference.
