My husband and I decided to try out this place since we are going to Spain for our 25th anniversary in 2026. Wanted to get a feel for a Spanish Tapas bar. El Botero did not disappoint, everything was very delicious. They were only out of one item (apparently this happens occasionally because they do not make bulk items. Everything is made to order) so hopefully we’ll try that next time. We shared seven different items from the menu… The scallop ceviche was our favorite! I did not get photos of everything because we just dug right in without thinking about this review…

We enjoyed a really nice bottle of Tempranillo from Rioja. Our server was very attentive and a delight to interact with. We went early around 5:30PM so it wasn’t too busy…they have indoor and outdoor seating. We chose a small indoor table for the two of us.

It was not too noisy, they were playing some Spanish music that could have been turned down, just a tad, but it wasn’t so loud we couldn’t talk to each other

They also have free parking on site but you have to look for the blue signs that don’t require you pay to park.

Anytime I spot Spanish food, it’s a must for me! I love getting to taste and experience the different techniques of a flavorful paella served in a sizzling pan… wow. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try the paella this time, but I was definitely not disappointed with my choices.

We started with the buñuelos de bacalao—so fluffy and delicious, especially with the spicy aioli. Then we tried the chef’s choice empanadas: one filled with pork (I think!) and the other with bacalao, both paired perfectly with a side of cilantro sauce. Let’s just say our before-and-after photos tell the full story!

They also have live music from time to time, which makes me even more excited to come back. Overall, the food and ambiance were a 10/10—a true must-visit in Boerne!

Don’t go to this restaurant with a hunger , TAPPAS are very small plates of tasty food but not going to cure your hunger.
Waiter was awesome and really tried to accommodate our first visit to what we thought was going to be a great Spanish cuisine experience.
We would have ordered the $72 main Paella Del Mar dish but the chef refused to remove the heads from the prawns per our request ?
When ordering we asked for some extra bread to enjoy the very small areas of garlic sauce on the Gambia and we were charged $1.50 for some sliced baguette type bread that was not very good .

Could not get an unsweetened tea or a Topo Chico or any beverages other then Coke Diet Coke and water .
Of course lots of wine choices and sangria choices but we’re not drinkers .
Atmosphere was dark but thinking they were trying to create a vibe .

Maybe this wasn’t a good choice for my wife and I celebrating our 50th Valentine’s Day eve together after dining at such great Spanish restaurants like EL QUIJOTE in NYC and RINCON DE ESPANA in Newark NJ gave us a glimmer of hope that we might have found a sweet spot for a Spanish cuisine experience.

Unfortunately this was not that .

Giving a $25 CC deposit with our reservation really made us excited for a true Spanish cuisine experience but no .

We cancelled our reservation at the Bevy here in Boerne who advertised seafood paella on Friday nights , of course we called first and NO SEAFOOD PAELLA this Friday evening .

All in all we were really dissapointed with what could have been a regular spot for us and our family if the restaurant would have been a little more agreable with us losing our heads ( on the PRAWNS) that is .might have had a chance .

Sorry El BOTERO you won’t be seeing us again, , maybe your a better match for others .

Always try to support local restaurants and previously have had good meals at Botero. When we arrived on a Friday night at 7.00pm we were the only people in the restaurant. We were unsuccessful in ordering 3 items on the menu. The restaurant said it was because they were preparing for Valentines Day set menu the next day. The waiter in my opinion should have told us unavailable items before we ordered. When the food came out, 2 of the appetizers were lukewarm at best. On the plus side the Paella was solid. On top of this 2 of our favorite items previously on the menu had been removed. I understand the need to change menus, but if you do, you should have them available.

An incredible Spanish dining experience in an unexpected place. Best paella I’ve had in Texas, and the scallop ceviche is out of this world. Service was attentive, friendly, and quick. The paella is cooked to order (as it should be) so expect 40 to 45 minutes for it to come out; in the mean time delight in the many other items on the menu, which do come out quickly. Absolutely loved it, enough, that I may be making the multiple hour drive down to Boerne more often just to visit this place.

Great location, friendly helpful staff & a large spanish wine selection . The Lavender Sangria is amazing a worth a visit. The seating is limited even with the outdoor patio. The chairs oddly are pretty small & uncomfortable . We did enjoy our meal & will return for live music.

Unfortunately we had a bit of a lackluster time compared to other reviews. The pulpo a la gallega came without potatoes, despite the ingredient being mentioned on the menu. The octopus component was tasty if a bit underserved. The oil it was served in made for a great bread dipping experience, though you get only 2 slices of baguette to accompany your, roughly, 1.5 ounces of octopus. We also had the Coca Jamon Serrano. The bread was good. The onions needed more time in the pan and we received more balsamic reduction drizzle on the serving platter than on the flatbread itself. The house Alabarino was tasty and I would recommend the Coral do Mar to anyone. The French Kronenburg 1664 beer was served a bit warm. Unfortunately a miss overall but service was friendly and prompt. I’m open to try it another time, perhaps on a busier day when the kitchen is firing on a few more cylinders, so to speak.

The food was good. There isn’t many options for kids so definitely suggest this being a date night spot. The server picked our wines based on what we said we liked and he matched them perfectly. The paella was good and had a lot of flavor! The crab bisque was okay but got cold quickly and that ruined the flavor. Overall this is a good spot for only adults. It isn’t very kids friendly.
