I should’ve known that a taco shop in the middle of nowhere Missouri, was not going to be to good, but I had to stop by. I am not going to compare it to Mexican food in SoCal, but know that just because someone is a Mexican, doesn’t mean they are a good cook.
I ordered tacos del pastor and an order of rice. Pork pastor is the jewel of Mexican street tacos.
It is fresh pork that is marinated in a mixture of spices, pineapple juice and even fresh pineapple sometimes and it’s roasted slowly until it caramelizes and every piece is alternately moist and crunchy. Then it’s thrown into a couple of small tortillas and topped with chopped cilantro and onions. Heavenly….Although I didn’t have it that afternoon.
What I received was old dried pieces of steak, just covered in the pastor spices. It’s like someone giving you a veggie hot dog and telling you that its a 100%, Hebrew National beef dog.
The rice was very weird, it tasted like soap, maybe the pan it was cooked in? The icing on the cake was the woman who was both the cashier and the cook. Unfriendly, cold, definitely not happy to be there, it showed in her face and in her food.
Btw, there are lots of pretty pictures on the wall of the food they supposedly have, but they were out of lots of it and there were NO prices posted.
The place is part old groceries, old snacks, negative vibe and terrible food. Never again.
