We ordered the quesadillas and rice, they were delicious and very satisfying! The service was excellent, Lucia and Jose were both super friendly, and made us feel very welcome. We really appreciated that they were open on Christmas, which made the visit even more special. We’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this place to others.

Excellent Mexican restaurant with amazing service and generous portions.
We had a wonderful experience here. The service was outstanding — we were treated incredibly well from the moment we arrived.
The food is delicious and very abundant, and we really appreciated that they clearly explain what dishes are spicy and which are not, so you know exactly what to expect. Everything we ordered was fresh and full of flavor.
What truly makes this place special is that it’s owner-operated. You can feel the care, pride, and attention to detail in both the food and the service.
We felt welcomed, well taken care of, and truly enjoyed our meal.
Highly recommended — we will definitely be back!

For being in the mountains of CO this place was great. Their coffee was very good and the wife and I shared a giant Ouray Margherita and the fajitas for 2. Their chicken asado was on point and we really loved the asada and shrimp. No complaints and the Margherita was on point too. Would definitely return!

What a wonderful surprise! We’ve been mourning Red Mountain Brewey that used to be in this spot, but have found a new delightful place! The margaritas are delicious! I had the cucumber, cilantro jalapeño, my husband the classic, and they were fantastic. The Ouray Special (see picture) entree was plenty for 2, cooked and seasoned to perfection! We’ll definitely be back!

Ordered the combination plate, enchiladas and tamale with green chili sauce. Ate 1 enchilada, tried a bit of the tamale, was not what I was expecting. Green sauce tasted like Verde lime sauce, no flavor. My tamale seemed frozen, maybe just the cooking process, not sure. Flavor could have been better. The music was nice but a bit too loud to conversate with my guest. Ordered a soapapilla as an app, it was amazing. Ordered another & cheesecake to go. Menu didn’t really state what came on the desserts, picture didn’t show whipped cream. I should have asked tho. It was quite a bit for the size of the cake. Maybe I went at the wrong time, other reviews were great, that’s why I decided to try something in a different area than mine. Coming from New Mexico but current resident in a the surrounding area, I was expecting a little more authentic as stated in other reviews.

The Chicken Soup was very good. My wife had a single taco. The restaurant was not very crowded. There was plenty of places to park. This is a good place for a bar and a drink of Margarita. The price was expensive, but it’s what you would expect from a tourist town next time. I come here. I’m going to try their combo special.

Being born and raised in New Mexico, I feel I am qualified to give a reliable review of a Mexican restaurant. El Agave Azul 2 in Ouray is a good, solid Mexican eatery.
My wife and I ate breakfast there, and we both had the huevos rancheros. The eggs were prepared perfectly (over-easy), and were covered in a delicious red sauce that tasted home-made. The sides were refritos along with some of the best Mexican-style home fries we have ever eaten. The home fries were chunks of pan-roasted potatoes fried together with bell peppers and onions. Everything was seasoned to perfection.
The next time we are in Ouray, we plan to go to El Agave Azul 2 for dinner. I’m especially looking forward to trying their chiles rellenos, which they describe in their menu as being “crispy” (i.e., the authentic way to prepare them).
One detractor: their coffee was atrocious. It was weak, and tasted like instant. The tea was not much better: my wife ordered black tea (she’s not a coffee drinker), and all they had were some lame flavored teas that didn’t satisfy her needs at all. It’s best just to stick with the water (which was excellent).
This said, the rest of our meal was so good that I won’t subtract a star from my rating for the problem with the drinks (I normally would).

Mexican food the way it should taste – Authentic, and not Americanized or Tex-Mex. Tried the carne asada with beans and passed on rice to reduce carbs. Steak was flavorful and beans were delicious. Meal does not come with chips and salsa included if you expect that.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot a good choices for sit down breakfast in town. We came upon El Agave Azul and were able to sit on their patio at 11am for their breakfast served all day. I had the huevos rancheros and it’s one of the better ones I’ve ever had. The potatoes and refried beans were excellent too. My husband ordered the Ouray breakfast that included a couple of pancakes. So good. He asked for extra butter and they brought him some that was melted. That was a nice touch. It was so nice to pour the butter over the top rather than try and mush hard butter onto a soft pancake. Would definitely come back.
