My boyfriend and I are visiting from out of town and were really excited to stop by Eight & Hays Wine Bar after landing, especially after reading such great reviews. We had just flown into town, and since I love pizza and wine, my boyfriend specifically picked this spot as our first stop.
Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the moment we walked up. We arrived at 8:26 PM on Thursday, well before the posted 10:00 PM closing time listed online, only to be abruptly told by the hostess that they were closed. We weren’t even given the opportunity to say whether we were planning to order food or just enjoy a glass of wine. Even if the kitchen was closing, we would have happily stayed for wine service.
I was especially excited to try the pizza — and we were even told we couldn’t place a to-go order. That was really disappointing, particularly since we arrived well before the listed closing time.
It’s my birthday weekend and as a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan, this trip was special to me. To be turned away without any explanation or flexibility left a bad first impression.
We completely understand if there are early closures or kitchen cut-off times, but updating online hours or offering a brief explanation would go a long way. Sadly, this experience didn’t reflect the welcoming atmosphere we were hoping for.

I had a really great time here. I came with a small group of ladies to meet for our monthly book club & we had a good time! The food was great and the service also. The menu had a few different specials & a great drink selection. I have never heard of this place before & Im glad we decided to come here. Will be back. I got the build your own pizza and I was full. Good portions & a nice atmosphere. Very spacious & cozy.

My family and I took in a movie last night at the Waterfront in Pittsburgh and of course tasked me with finding the restaurant. I did a quick search to see if anything new has popped up since we’ve last visited the area and came across this restaurant. I’m not sure how long they’ve been in business but this was our first time. We absolutely loved it! I’m pretty picky with food since I’m constantly cooking at home and I have trouble paying for just mediocre cooking. I love salmon and have trouble getting it out anywhere without it being overcooked. I decided to take a chance when i saw the salmon salad on the menu. It was without a doubt the best salmon I’ve ever eaten! Crispy, screaming hot and cooked perfectly! Just doesn’t get any better. The salad was perfectly dressed. The cheese. The pomegranate and apple slices with walnuts. It all just came together. My wife had a margarita pizza that I of course sampled and it was heavenly as well. I had an old fashioned to drink and we finished the evening off with the Italian lemon crème cake and an expresso. Great atmosphere. Warm and cozy. Excellent waitress. Just a great experience. Can’t wait to return!

Had an enjoyable time here. Cool ambiance and vibes. Nice wine selection. Family and I had a great time tasting a little of this and a little of that. Review your bill at this place. They charged us for an extra bottle of wine, hot oil for the pizza, and to swap out one of the cheese options for our charcuterie. Sometimes things like that makes an enjoyable experience frustrating. The food and the wine was good. Wine was a great addition. The dessert was okay…it seemed like it sat in the fridge for a bit, but the family enjoyed and that’s all that matters. Service was fine, all waitstaff were friendly.

Lovely restaurant with strong and unique cocktails and a menu. I had the bison, and it was wonderful, as was the service and atmosphere. I loved the fireplace on a cold Pittsburgh evening. The power briefly went out, and the servers immediately pulled their phones and used their flashlights while standing over tables so guests could see their menu. Of course, we had our own phones, but I appreciated how, on their toes they were. Great date, upscale, but not too pretentious type of place.

Eighth & Hays gets a 5-star review from me!! The atmosphere, food, drinks, and service were astounding to say the least! As you can see from the pictures all of us had delectable food, mouthwatering drinks, and was very comfortable.
I would definitely advise anyone who hasn’t been there to check it out! It’s best to make reservations as they get packed, and you may have to wait.

We love it here. Been a number of times. Food & beverages are great. Service is good as well.
Wish they used less fake flavors in their cocktails. Flavored liquor is for college kids IMO. Many drinks don’t have it though.

Our bartender, Danielle was the absolute best! This was our last stop on a bar hopping adventure for my brother’s birthday. The energy and atmosphere was so chill and cozy. Food and deserts were delicious!

Just came from their $35 pizza and house wine special on Wednesday. Got the Cajun chicken white pie and the Illusion, one of the house wines . I have to say that I will be returning. Super chill place, great ambiance. Our waitress Kelsey was fantastic. Got a half chef charcuterie board as well to split between 2 people which was also fantastic.
