HOWEVER, the designated employee salad bar server defeats the purpose of salad bar automomy which makes the self-serve salad bar a great experience in the 1st place.
Studies have shown every indivual is hard-wired to a salad-plate-matrix. Everything item has it’s place, volume, and proximty perameters that are nearly impossible to communicate to someone within a 1-minute interaction.
My suggestion would be a “Salad Bar Proctor” who watches over the salad bar like a life guard, yet doesn’t get invloved unless it’s an emergency. Someone’s getting double-dip spoon happy, they step in. Someone uses their hands to grab a mandarin slice, they blow their wistle; “that’s a warning”. Someone sneezes, everybody out of the pool; bring the hazmat crew in and disinfect the whole thing.
Whereas the responsible patrons could still enjoy salad-bar-adult-swim without having to give slight nods when the server says “more cottage cheese?” after the 3rd spoonfull. “Yes, more cottage cheese and it has beef with the ham, so please keep them separted.”
Just a thought.
Saw the sign near the freeway about huge sandwiches at East Bay Deli so we were excited to try it.
When our food arrived, we wondered where the rest of the sandwich was.
Neither the corned beef nor the pastrami tastes like it was made in house. Bread did not taste like they baked it. Portions were small, both my wife and I ended up getting two sandwiches each.
Did not try the salad bar but noticed that it was no longer self serve and was not well stocked.
Place was pretty much dead; very few customers.
Not impressed, won’t be coming back and not recommended.
As I was approaching the counter, we were told they closed at 6. No apology. No, well it’s only 6:02, so we can help you, but please take your order to-go. Just a snarky acknowledgement that the sign was still on when she followed us out the door to turn it off. I can get “meh” food almost anywhere, so I think I’ll be doing that from now on, since I prefer my food without the side of snark.
I love that they closed early so that their employees can go home to prepare for Thanksgiving, but I don’t love that they didn’t properly close.
