My husband and I visited Early Bird Ankeny for the first time and had a fantastic experience! We arrived right when they opened and were the first customers of the day. The staff greeted us warmly with big smiles and were friendly the entire time.
All of our dishes came out quickly and everything was fresh and delicious. I had the El Gordo Morning Burrito, and it was amazing—the meat was tender and flavorful, and every bite tasted fresh. My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Steak; while he wasn’t a fan of the pork sausage gravy (he’s very picky about that!), I personally thought it was delicious.
He also ordered a spiked apple cider, which he absolutely loved, and I had a hot chocolate that was SO good—topped with roasted marshmallows and perfectly balanced (not too watery or overly sweet).
Everything was great quality and came out in a timely manner. It is on the pricier side, but for the amount of food, the quality, and the excellent service, it’s absolutely worth it. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Hailey Sprague is amazing! Her bartending skills are impeccable. We sat at the bar and watched her make drinks with perfect pours and my vanilla Lattini was absolutely amazing! Carla made my 2nd one and just as delicious. Both ladies were very personable and helpful. Crab Rangoon omelet was delicious as was the jalapeño hash app was to die for! Definitely coming back!

Stopped in after a meeting to unwind a tad and grab a bite to eat. They have a quiet tucked back all seasons room with a great view. Service was excellent thanks to haley and the cold bubbly mimosa paired with a warm latte was perfect! Had a steak egg bagel and it was to die for i was so hungry i forgot a pic. definitely worth a try!!

I have dined in at Early Bird since their opening at the WDM location and always had great food. I’ve dined in a few times at the East Village location as well & it was always good. As I live in Ankeny, I’ve Doordashed from the Ankeny location a few times, and each time I’ve done so it’s been a major let down. I ordered the Quesabirria omelette which came with hash browns and toast. The omelette and hash browns both virtually had zero seasoning. The omelette was only half full of meat, leaving the other half with egg only. It didn’t come with cheese inside or onions on top like the description mentioned. Just egg and meat and some cilantro sprinkled on top. The hashbrowns were terrible and for some reason tasted like cleaning products, as if the grill was improperly cleaned. I also ordered the churro waffle & it just wasn’t as good as the times I’ve had it before, it was doughy and just unpleasant to eat, like it hadn’t been fried long enough. I also ordered the hash holes and they were fine, but they are advertised to come with ketchup and queso, I only received the queso-which fine, no ketchup, no big deal, but again you can see the pattern of the items not arriving as they are described. I’m not sure if this location has a different cook for delivery orders, but the time I ordered before I had items missing from my order. The worst part of it, is this time I paid over $70 for one appetizer, one entree, and a waffle. The food is extremely overpriced to be this much of a let down. Safe to say I won’t be ordering for delivery from this location again.

Definitely a must try place if your in the area! We stopped in after visiting family for the holidays and absolutely loved the atmosphere, the staff, and the food! 10 out of 10 in my book! But get there early! You definitely will become an early bird for them!

The food was fantastic, the beverages kept flowing, and the whole place has that perfect cutsey “bougie” but friendly brunch energy that makes you want to sit there way longer than you planned. Everything we ordered was delicious and came out quick, hot, and clearly made with care. [Must try the bacon wontons — they seriously must have food “crack” in them because hawt dammmnnnn they are scrumptious! ]
And then there was our server, Ash. Friendly, hilarious, attentive in that magical way where your mimosa never gets empty but you also never feel hovered over. Ash was absolutely hustling and somehow still making every table feel taken care of. The kind of service that makes you think, “Wow… this person could probably run this whole restaurant if necessary.”
Honestly, as I sat there happily enjoying my food, and slobbering over the candied bacon, all I could think was: “What could I possibly do to make Ash’s day as good as he made mine?”
And the answer became very clear: 5-star Google review!!! So naturally, the only responsible thing to do was leave one because Early Bird’s MVP Ash deserves that and so much more!
Consider this my official contribution to Team Ash. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – I would give him 6️⃣ stars honestly, but damnit if Google doesn’t have that extra Ash-Level on their super-STAR-scale.
