They don’t care about paying customers. After standing at the door for 10 minutes before young girl came out from the kitchen and said seat yourself. All the tables were dirty and only 2 tables of people in the restaurant. The family behind us at the door, they were cousins to the lady with gray short hair. They all started hugging and a few adults went into the kitchen. The gray short haired lady ask or the lady volunteered to clean a table for themselves. The lady who volunteered started cleaning more tables. Lady who volunteered went back to the kitchen and brought chip to her table. I said something and her husband went and got us chips. The girl came and took our order and the Duran of 8 order which is the lady who helped clean tables. A another young girl came from the back and was talking to them about her wrestling. More people came, 4 top and a 2 top. The girl came out and took their orders. The lady with the short gray hair came out and ask the older gentleman what was his order. Their food came out, the next 2 tables food came out and we are still waiting. The lady with the gray short hair told the Duran family of 8 who says they are cousins, she would comp their bill since the wife helped with the tables and did not care if she lost her job. She would not acknowledge us at all. We are still waiting. Another table came in and ordered with the girl. The Duran’s were finishing their dinner and we were still waiting. Now it was close to 1 hour after we come in. I went to the bathroom and came back to the table as I was walking out they brought the other tables food. I decide to leave because we had a long drive and we were very hungry. The only person seemed to be really working was the guy in the kitchen. The rest were just talking in back. We left. They just forgot about us. It’s is sad to me because this was not the first time. When Gloria is not there, they do what they want. I will not be back.

The food was tasty. The price was not bad. However, pay attention to your bill. We had a party of 6, a 20% gratuity was automatic BUT the server did not tell us this. When u pay, you don’t see the itemized bill, you only see the total. So we ended up paying 40% tip! You will not know this unless u asked for printed receipt.
So that’s what i didn’t like about Dutch Mill Cafe

The food in this place is delicious, and that’s why this is a two-star and not a one-star review. So if you’re going to order ahead, and just go pick it up, excellent choice. But it takes more than just food to run a restaurant. Your service, is one of the most important things to ensure return customers, and that customers actually pay for the food. The service was basically non-existent. When we got there on a busy Sunday morning, we waited 15 min to be seated at a dirty table that they could have cleaned right away. There is no manager or even owner that can direct things. It looked like it was run by people who never even ate in a restaurant, let alone serve in one. No one knew what to do or how to even take an order. Only one waitress looked like she had been a waitress for longer than 5 min. We waited 15 min just to pay for our food. This could have been the perfect place to dine and dash. No one would have stopped us. Fortunately for them, we were raised better and have good morals. That being said The smothered breakfast burrito was absolutely fantastic. Which is why the cook is the only one who shouldn’t be fired. Again, not recommended for don’t in, but definitely grab and go. The food is amazing! But order ahead, it takes a while.

One of our highlights of our trip, when we arrived we were greeted by a young gir, who was so friendly seated us and served us our drinks. You know when the food is amazing, all you have to do is finish it. No seasoning or sauces added just delicious flavors

The food here was amazingly good. The burrito smothered in green chile is to die for. The service, however, was sadly lacking. We stood waiting to be seated for 5-10 minutes with empty tables all over just waiting to be bussed, and three ladies talking about who should bus the tables instead of actually bussing them.

We get the chance to travel through antonito every couple of years. This was the first time that the trip took us through town during the lunch hour. This little cafe doesn’t look like much on the outside but it does have a nice interior and they very decent menu. Their Mexican plates are quite good. The bathrooms are well-maintained.

We came to Antonito for the train ride. The owner of the hotel recommended to go to this restaurant. We made it there and right away they took our order and a few minutes later we got water, salsa and chips… but that was it… we waited about 50 mins and we never got our food. We stood up and left. Some other locals told us we were not the only ones experiencing that this week, that they had a “High school” reunion in town and the staff have been ignoring the out of town tourist. Terrible service, who knows how good or not the food is, we didn’t come back.

Waitress didn’t mention she was adding 20% tip to our party of six and didn’t give itemized bill. So when I added 20% tip she got 40% tip. Very dishonest.

If you like green chile in the northern New Mexico style, come to the Dutch Mill. Yes, it’s in Colorado, but culturally the San Luis valley is similar to northern NM. The stuffed sopapilla, chile rellenos, and huevos rancheros were all delicious.

Update: I returned this month (July 2021), and it’s still a solid 5 stars for me.
