Was in the mood for a hoagie and haven’t been to Durham Deli in a couple of years. So I ordered on the phone and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes.

I ordered an Italian hoagie, my wife and daughter also ordered Italian hoagies as well. I arrived roughly 15 minutes after ordering and all three hoagies were ready and bagged ready for pick up. I also purchased a bag of chips and 2 sodas and the price for everything was $35.

As always the hoagies were delicious and the price was more than reasonable. I’m always going to refer anyone who wants a sandwich or hoagie to Durham.

Just a side note, I’ve order many different types of sandwiches and hoagies from Durham and I have never been disappointed.

And yet another side note… Durham Deli is The Establishment that originated the Hoagie Fest.

I live very close to here, and this has always been my go to for Hoagies. I legit have been coming here for the past 30 years. My Grandfather introduced me to this place when I was knee high to a duck. And now that hes gone, I continue the tradion of coming here time after time to get my Italian hoagies.

But, ive noticed the decline latley in the quality of the Hoagies, unfortunately. Two months in a row ive noticed that the Italians I ordered we’re lacking the amount of meat they usually would put on them, and the one hoagie was not even made correctly.

I just ordered another Italian ahead of time like I always do, tell them what I want over the phone, and show up 10-15 mins later to pick it up. The first hoagie the first month was taken by what sounded like an older gentleman, who scoffed at me when I asked to place an order for 1 Italian hoagie. He took the order, and we hung up “Give us about 20 mins, he said”

I show up 20 mins later, told them my name, and no one even bothered to make the hoagie. So i had to wait in line and wait for them to retake and make my Italian. Get back to work, and there is no hots no sweets, no pickles just shredded lettuce tons of mayo, and barley any meat. Disappointing to say the least. I was starving, and ate it anyway.

Fast forward another month (just a few days ago from this post) I ordered an Italian hoagie. Everything on it mayo oil everything except tomatoes. That’s my order, every time. This time when I got there the hoagie was ready, the staff was very nice, everything was smooth. I get back to my job, the large Italian was riddled with so much mayonnaise. It was literally seeping out of the wrapping… It was oozing everywhere and all I could taste was Mayo. They put so much shredded lettuce, sweet peppers, hot peppers and pickles on it which was good, but yet again so little meat anymore, and for some reason, they put sharp provolone on my hoagie instead of regular provolone. Ive never had to tell them to put regular provolone on my sandwhich, ever! It was terrible tasting and because I was so hungry, I ate it anyway. It was so disappointing.

I don’t want to give up on this place, but what happened to the Durham Deli that I grew up with? What happened to those amazing Hoagies that you would only need to eat half of and then save the rest for another entire meal?! I really hope things turn around, I would hate to give up on my favorite Deli.

Unreal quality and quantity of food on a hoagie and at a crazy good price.
Pickles are insanely cheap 95c but would pay 2.50.
This place hasn’t changed enough in price for what you get. That’s dedication right there!

The hoagie was the best we’ve had in years — fresh, flavorful, and worth the stop. Unfortunately, the people working there were pretty rude. Maybe it was because they were busy, but it still took away from the experience. Great food, but the attitude needs work.

Me and my cousin got hoagies for lunch and they were everything that a classic deli hoagie should be. Nothing fancy, just solid ingredients at a good price. There aren’t enough places like this anymore.

First off the Service is excellent. Durham Deli is always busy 2 to 3 people deep ordering their Hoagies and other things. The workers behind the Deli counter are fast and courteous.

Small little deli with lots to choose from. It can get very chaotic in here as far as ordering because there is no ordering system or calling people by numbers. The staff can also be very rude if you have questions or if it is your first time there. For one chicken sandwich on a Kaiser roll it was almost $6 and then I got another sandwich that was closer to $7.00. Delicious chicken salad and deli meat, but I just wish the staff weren’t so rude.

**update: I’ve been here a few times now and this is what I noticed. The line inside is always so long because the people behind the counter are attending to call ahead orders instead of the people in front of them. They have people waiting inside the store for a while without getting service. Once you do get service, the staff is extremely rude and tries to rush you. They do not answer questions at all. **

If you’re looking for a family owned business that cranks out some amazing sandwiches, then look no further. I’ve only ever had the turkey hoagie, and it’s one of the best around. Absolutely huge portion with high quality ingredients. Skip the chains and give Durham Deli a try, you will not regret it.

After living on the West Coast for 40 years, walking into this store was like walking into my childhood! The smell took me back to getting hoagies for lunch during high school. The Italian sandwich was divine, large portions of meat. I’ll be coming back here on a future visit for sure!!
