Great coffee and friendly service. There’s plenty of seating space inside and outside the coffee shop to sit and enjoy your coffee.

A cute little space with a fireplace, seasonal decorations, paintings on the walls, free WiFi, a diverse menu, group seating and individual seating, cold drinks in a fridge, customer bathroom, children’s art, bulletin board for community flyers, a water dispenser, checkerboard table with checkers (recycled bottle caps), etc. My baristas were extremely friendly and service was quick. Caramel frappe was delicious. They feature local art vendors and I purchased an adorable pair of earrings. If I lived here, I would be in this coffee shop every single week.

Stopped by for lunch while visiting the area. Order at counter and they bring to the table.

The owners weren’t welcoming or friendly which immediately took away from my experience. I ordered a Naan pepperoni pizza and diet Pepsi for lunch. Asked for a little extra cheese on the pizza and was met with dirty looks. Paid with cash and they didn’t want to break a $50, so I did a $20 instead. Clearly did not want cash payment, but that’s my preferred method of payment.

Found a table by the window and enjoyed a lovely view while waiting for my pizza. The pizza itself was delicious. No idea whether it had extra cheese, but it was really good. Came out in about 15 minutes.

The total was $12. When I left, walking directly by the front counter and owners, neither said thanks or good day or anything. Hm.

Anyway – good lunch pizza! No reason to try them again. There were a dozen other places surrounding them that I will check out to receive hopefully better service.

My husband and I enjoyed our visit to the Excelsior Dunn Bros Coffee! The bacon cheddar breakfast burrito and chocolate steamed nirvana were excellent! The owners were very friendly too!

Dunn Bros is a favorite and I was in the area so I stopped by this one for a hit. Based on these other reviews and the neighborhood I can tell it is in a snobby area of town that needs a reality check on their expectations on probably a lot of things. Staff was pleasant. Coffee was good. Internet worked. Plenty of space. I didn’t have the food but it looked pretty standard. Its a coffee shop.

Yesterday, I ordered a couple items and spent maybe 60 minutes on my laptop. During that time 4 teenagers came in and sat down. They weren’t loud or rude or anything as far as I can tell, but within a few minutes of sitting down they were approached by a worker and told something to the effect of “if you’re not going to order you have to leave”. They left immediately. I didn’t pay too much attention and just assumed they had been a problem previously.
As I was about to leave, a gentleman who was also working left and asked for some water on the way out. A different employee told him “I noticed you have been here a while, we have to ask that you purchase something else if you stay here a while”.
I get this is a business but if the owner is asking employees to do this 1) employees should be trained on how to bring this up without being offensive, 2) there should be some signage so they don’t have to have these interactions, 3) there can and should be exceptions to this. The place was nearly empty, it’s not like people were waiting for a table. And 4) not a block down the street there is The Lobby, a nicer cafe that is consistently packed where they never ask people to buy something or move along. They seem to have found a way to make a profit.
The customer said something about how he had never been told this before and clearly wasn’t happy. He was told it was the new owner’s instruction.
I personally always try to order at least a one (very over-priced) drink per every hour or so, but if it’s a requirement it should be posted. Either way I won’t be going back to this location.

Excelsior location … Avocado toast is NOT good! Sparse avocado, egg cold, drizzle of balsamic vinegar, which is sweet and why? If it wasn’t for the bacon, it would have zero flavor. Another guest sitting at a nearby table said the same; we both agreed that the avocado toast at Dunn Brothers used to be absolutely delicious! Just disappointing. I won’t be getting it again.

This place rocks! Why go to a big chain type coffee shop when you can come to Excelsior…have a view of the lake…have a wonderful coffee and a sandwich made from scratch plus talk to the owners at the same time! The ham, egg and cheese croissant is my go to! 10/10 would recommend!

One of my favorite coffee shops in the area! Right in the middle of Downtown Excelsior, you can’t beat the location and ability to grab a cup of joe and walk the lakefront. Service has always been great. Thanks to Ken and Sharon for keeping things going over there and always having a welcoming atmosphere!
