Dumpling Wei excels with great food and service. The front of this restaurant is very visible both walking and driving. Upon entering you walk through a small dining area to the host stand. At this counter you can be directed to a table or select a take-out order. Because I was unfamiliar with some of the foods I asked the gentleman at the desk for assistance. He was very kind as he asked for my preferences, as well as allergies. I decided to order four items for takeout. While I was waiting for my order to be prepared, I was impressed by the aromas and sounds of the kitchen. Family recipes and techniques are utilized for preparation. Homemade noodles and dumplings are a specialty. The website for Dumpling Wei is extremely helpful. The explanations, descriptions, and creativity reflect the quality of this restaurant. The website is very user friendly. Look it up even if just to find out how a website should be designed.
After 15 to 20 minutes all of my food was ready, neatly packed and placed carefully in a heavy duty paper handled bag. The food containers were also very well constructed. No spills, no movement.
I started eating the Green Onion Pancakes first. The folded pancakes had great flavor and the dipping sauce was a perfect compliment of spice.
The Shrimp Wontons were steamed to perfection. They were moist and the shrimp had a nice bite.
The Smoked Duck Rolls were a pleasant surprise. Packed with vegetables and Smoked Duck flavor and larger than I had expected.
The Garlic Chili Oil Noodles still had a great aroma as I opened the container. They were a rich and filling entree.
The Garlic Eggplant with Pork was also filled with flavor.
Dumpling Wei was a great experience. I look forward to going back and trying the many other items that intrigue me on their diverse menu.
Right across from Pasadena City College, Dumpling Wei is that lowkey, woman-owned gem serving handmade noodles + dumplings that taste like home but hit like a craving.
We went ALL in:
Garlic Cucumber (the crunch??)
️ Pig Ear in Chili Oil
Beef Roll — flaky + stacked
Pork Wontons in Chili Oil
Pork Xiao Long Bao (careful, they’re juicy)
Garlic Pork Ribs
Garlic Eggplant w/ Ground Pork
Fried Noodles w/ Chicken
Pork Potstickers
Golden Beef Belly Noodle Soup (spicy and SO worth it)
Everything made in-house. Everything packed with flavor.
This is your sign to skip the cafeteria and walk across the street.
We ordered the Pork Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), chicken Potstickers, Green Onion Pancakes, Beef Noodle Soup, but we especially liked their Garlic Eggplant and the Garlic String Beans. It’s not fancy like the new Panda Inn in Pasadena, (yet so much more authentic and at an awesome price point) … and that’s because you order at the counter, take your number, find a table, and the meal is quickly brought to your table.
The youthful Staff were very friendly and helpful (not your old-school rude and surly middle-aged waiters and waitresses who don’t care about good customer service). This will hopefully be our go-to Chinese restaurant to take our friends.
