Popped into Drake’s to try the Fish & Chips. The haddock was very fresh and fried well in a batter that was lovely and crunchy. We also had the Haddock Salad which came with the slaw and salad

We also had the fried pickles (freckles) which was refreshing. The front part of the shop is for takeaway and the back is the restaurant proper where you can sit down comfortably and order.

A good place to have Fish & Chips!

It’s just above average. Fair portion size & good service but not cheap & leaves an after taste. One reviewer on here says “the best haddock & chips he’s ever tasted”. I can only assume that’s the only one he’s tried!

The fish and chips were just average. The fish was cooked properly, but the batter wasn’t as crisp as I hoped. Nothing to say for the burger. That curry sauce with corn was a real treat—unique! The portion was decent and service was nice, but overall, it didn’t stand out. Fine for a quick meal, but nothing I’d rave about.

Lovely place for fish and chips. Me and my girlfriend arrived to York yesterday night and have a little walk in the town and this place for fish and chips was the best stop. Clean, lovely service and the food was amazing. 100% recommended, also it was my first type having gravy on my chips but I won’t be the last time.

The best haddock fish and chips Ive tasted. Defo worth the visit if you are in York! Flavoursome fish batter and chips, ours was cooked to perfection, thanks to the chef. The gravy was yum and plentiful to share, tastes like proper homemade gravy. Also, the scampi was very tasty. There’s loads of dine-in seating inside, down the narrow corridor to the left when you walk in.

Tried this fish and chip shop out, on a visit to York to do the christmas market, and was not disappointed we both had the haddock and chips and both agreed it was probably the best haddock we could remember having , it was cooked to perfection and tasted so fresh , the batter was nice and thin and crispy! The chips were nice too.

Really lovely chips, the gravy was the best. We loved the little crispy bits they added on top. Only thing which wasn’t the best was the curry. Other than that, would really recommend!

My partner wanted some Fish and Chips, so we checked Google Maps for reviews, and this place came up right away, and we were only a minute away. We were gonna get takeout and sit at the minster, but that wasn’t a great idea with the rain coming and going.

So, we got a big haddock and chips, a small one, and a sausage and chips. Plus, curry sauce and mushy peas.

The food was amazing! We loved every bite. I’ve always heard that the best fish and chips are in coastal towns, and the further inland you go, the worse they get. But this was seriously good.

Plus, it’s a great place for families, and the price is awesome whether you eat in or take it to go.

Drake’s had been recommended by a friend as a real York style British fish and chip experience. We were not disappointed! We visited on a Saturday night in September. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. The haddock was delicious and the serving size of the chips was generous. I couldn’t resist giving the Frickles a go – who would have thought that fried pickles were a thing? Turns out, they’re an amazing thing!

Absolutely brilliant food.
I popped in on the 21st of October to grab some fish and chips. I’m from Scarborough and have worked in a chippy for the past 3 years and to say the least I think these fish and chips are the best I’ve had in my life, bar my own of course 🙂

The lunch time meal deal is an absolute steal considering the price of fish and everything else that goes into a chippy these days so I absolutely recommend it
