I recently tried this restaurant and had a pretty good experience. The samosa was definitely my favorite item: it was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. The cheese dosa was just okay; it wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really stand out. If you’re looking for something mild and not too spicy, I’d recommend the pizza dosa. It’s a fun twist on traditional flavors and a safer choice for anyone avoiding heat. Overall, a decent spot with some highlights worth trying!

I’ve tried the dosa spot at Newport Mall on the second floor multiple times, but unfortunately it hasn’t lived up to expectations. I ordered the onion masala dosa, and each time it was disappointing. The onions tasted raw, the dosa felt undercooked, and it was unusually thick instead of crisp. Even after giving it several chances, the quality has been inconsistent and not up to the mark. The place gets extremely crowded on weekends, which might be affecting the food preparation. Overall, I was expecting a better dosa experience, but it didn’t quite deliver.

Dosa Spot is a good and authentic place to try South Indian food. The chutney and sambhar tasted amazing, alongside the dosa, loved the crispyness. The pineapple sheera could have more pineapple pulp/pieces to give it a fresh taste. The prices for the dishes are on a decent end, but the quantity could have been more. The place is usually busy and full, sometimes having to wait in queues to be seated.

I had a very bad experience. First thing, they made me wait for more than 30 minutes for a paneer dosa which was so bland, just grated paneer inside the dosa. There’s no taste to it. Completely dissatisfied with the filter coffee: the size is so small, and it also tastes bad.

Dosas and Idlis really hit the spot. Very authentic in taste. Right amount of sides for chutney and sambhar.

Amazing place for dosa or Indian pancake. IMPORTANT: dosa is made from fermented lentil and rice, which is high in protein and fiber, healthier alternatives than wheat flour or rice flour based pancake. The Indian spice is also very good for gut health. Each dosa is hand made in the spot. Even jn rush hour, they can still handle multiple orders without running into any chaos.

I’ve had mixed experiences at Dosa Spot. When it’s good, it’s honestly my favorite dosa in Jersey City — crisp, flavorful, and satisfying. That’s why this is disappointing to write.

Lately, it’s been very hit or miss, and unfortunately more miss than hit. The service has consistently been slow. On my most recent visit, we waited about 40 minutes for two dosas, only to find out they hadn’t even been made yet and had to be prepared after we followed up. That’s just not acceptable for such a simple order.

When the dosas finally came out, both were extremely oily and not worth the wait. We ended up throwing them out after a few bites.

It’s also not inexpensive, so when the food and service both fall short, it’s hard to justify coming back. I really hope they improve, because at their best, they can be excellent. But for now, I’ll probably skip it.

Dosa Spot definitely hits the spot! The sambhar is flavorful, the vada is crispy (though a bit oily), and the dosa itself is delicious, even if on the oily side. The potato filling looks a little sad and stale but actually tastes good—just wish there was more of it to match the size of the dosa.

The filter coffee had too much milk for my taste, but the badam milk was absolutely yummy. Having been a fan since their food truck days in Newport—I once stood in line for two hours for a dosa, which was totally worth it—it’s great to see how far they’ve come.

A couple of downsides: the tables weren’t very clean, and the food could be a touch less oily. That said, everything tasted great, nothing upset my stomach, and I’d definitely visit again.

I had a very disappointing experience at Dosa Spot. The dosa was not cooked properly on one side, the potato masala was extremely bland, and the potato itself was uncooked and hard. The idly also felt half cooked. On top of that, the person preparing the dosa responded harshly when I pointed out the issue, which left me feeling disrespected. Overall, both the food quality and the customer service were below expectations.

Dosa spot in Newport mall is on 2nd floor behind the escalator – food is good but when it’s comes to coffee it’s way too expensive I have tried N number of coffees in whole NY/NJ but we usually think Starbucks is expensive but this spot is way too expensive 6.99 for 8oz which is totally a scam it’s not even 8oz sales tax-6.625% too expensive !not freshly made they preserve the coffee .
