Returning for a seat at the chef’s table — what should be the restaurant’s showcase we thought — revealed that the attentiveness that once made special occasion dining feel … special was not there. We felt we were watching a space that seemed more focused on being a social hub for regulars than on delivering the elevated cuisine it once championed. The owner never spoke to us and the table was a view of the kitchen and the staff socializing.
The menu has not changed much in months. While consistency can be a virtue, this feels less like confidence in a strong concept and more like complacency. The technical skills are still there and the kitchen clearly knows how to handle premium ingredients but without that creative spark and attention to growth that separates truly special restaurants from merely good ones.
Doro still has the foundation: the technique, the ingredients, the potential. But potential needs nurturing. Right now, this feels like a restaurant that’s decided it’s arrived rather than one that’s still striving. For the prices and the promises of an upscale experience, diners deserve more than a greatest hits menu. I hope this is just a phase.
We walked into the chic interior, with a bottle of Chianti under the arm as it’s BYOB. Something about sipping Chianti out of a nice wine glass…idk man. It makes me feel something. It makes me feel important. It makes me feel like I’m under the Florentine sky without a care in the world.
We went with the charred octopus ($20), pork schnitzel ($16), fish of the day, the crispy short ribs ($47), and some seared scallops ($20) that were to die for.
Everything hit, but that crispy short rib was operating on a different level. It was putting a show on. A crispy exterior with a tender interior, it made me question every other short rib dish I’ve ever had. I was inspired.
The portions were on the smaller side, but my girlfriend gave me the scout ahead of time so I demolished an Angie’s sub a few hours before dinner. It’s always nice when you do your pregame preparation and are able to get a clean read of the defense. I felt like Tom Brady.

For an upscale and pricier restaurant, the service was a bit lacking in polish and speed
Overall, a nice place
We had appetizers and the pork schnitzel was delicious. I did not enjoy their buratta.
I had the market fish of the day which was Tile fish with vegetable and arugula puree. I thought the fish was dry and a bit bland and the arugula puree was strong and overwhelming. My dinner companions loved their snapper and chicken dish.
The 5 star portion of the whole meal are the desserts. The homemade ice cream was delicious. So were the dark chocolate pot de creme. Amazingly delicious desserts!
The dinners are pricey, the place is small and cramp, our service was really good, and the food ranged from bland to delicious. Because of the location, price, and the hit or miss of the food, I’m not sure I would recommend it.
If I’m in the area, I’d love to go back and have the homemade ice cream again. That stood out for everyone in my dinner party.
The commendable staff, distinguished by their politeness and adeptness at addressing diverse needs and inquiries, contributes significantly to the overall positive dining experience. When positioned at the bar, one can observe a chef meticulously crafting appetizers, showcasing a captivating attention to detail that renders each dish a masterpiece. Notably, the consistency in the preparation of identical items is a testament to the culinary precision maintained.
Navigating the menu reveals a well-organized layout, with appetizers on the left and entrees on the right. Upon flipping the menu, a splendid array of fine wines, champagnes, liquors, and other libations awaits, catering to a spectrum of discerning tastes.
While Doro may not boast expansive dimensions, its service excellence and inviting ambiance seamlessly compensate for any initial reservations or uncertainties, ensuring a dining experience that surpasses expectations.
I recently stopped by just to have dessert, so my pics are of the strawberry pistachio pavlova.
Yes it’s pricey, and the portions are not large, but this isn’t Outback Steakhouse so I don’t go there expecting that. I go there when I want to be dazzled by what they put on a plate. The ingredients are always fresh, seasonal and unique. I try things there that I might not even think to try. But they are always presented in a way that I’ll eat every bite and just stop short of licking the plate!
I’ve never actually sat at one of the tables so I don’t know what that’s like- I really enjoy sitting at the bar/chef’s table and watching the food be prepared and asking questions about what’s on the plate.
