We stopped by Doodles Donuts and Café in Hayes because the new donut shop that a local referred us to had sold out of donuts.They had tons of variety and everything looked picture-perfect. The two younger employees (a guy and a girl) at the counter were super friendly and helpful, which was a nice start. Unfortunately, that’s where the good part ended.
The woman who seemed to be the owner or manager wasn’t very welcoming, which threw off the vibe a bit. On top of that, there was a table of smokers right down from the entrance who looked less than thrilled to see customers show up – definitely not the inviting experience you’d expect from a small country donut shop.
As for the donuts… they looked amazing but tasted old and dry, like they’d been sitting around for a few days. The two with filling barely had any filling to balance the dry donut, and for $16.99 for six, I expected them to be fresh and flavorful. Sadly, we ended up tossing four out of 6 we tried. Beautiful presentation, but the taste and experience didn’t live up to the price.

After reading reviews and seeing pictures. I decided to take a little drive and check out this donut shop. I was so disgusted that I almost decided to ask for my money back and return the boxed donuts but I don’t want to be “that” person. I kept feeling my shoes sticking to the floor and expecting it to be one area, I looked around and the entire floor looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. I sat down and the table was dirty and looked up and saw it looked like someone threw a drink at the tv and never cleaned it. I immediately regretted my purchase and didn’t even want to eat the donuts I purchased because of how dirty the place was in the customer area, I can only imagine the kitchen area is worse. I stopped at another donut shop on the way out of town. I can’t believe there isn’t another review of how dirty and gross it is.
The server was pleasant. I don’t know if it was her shop or if she is an employee, but it doesn’t even come close to making it worth the drive again.

These donuts have made me famous with my coworkers but also decimated my self-esteem: After bringing these donuts to work a few times this year I began noticing how excited my coworkers were to see me when I’d show up in their offices. It turns out they’ve just been excited at the thought that I might be bringing them donuts.*
The real review: This is a cozy little place that opens up early enough for me to snag a few dozen donuts before heading into work a couple times a month. The staff there is always friendly and kind, even at 6 am. The prices are reasonable for the quality and it hits the spot when you’re craving the indulgence of real pastry that’s truly freshly baked over a pre packaged donut chain experience.

I feel like there were more choices and were a lot fresher even in the beginning of this year. Ive been back twice. Not impressed. Especially not for how expensive the donuts are. Second time I went they were not cooked all the way, and didnt really have many options. Weren’t fresh. Third time went in the morning. Still weren’t fresh. Same old options too. Disappointing. Probably not going to spend my money here again. But what else is new in gloucester. No one takes their business seriously here, I swear!

Have been to Doodles several times. There has been an issue every time. This time I ordered coffee and after I paid I was told they didn’t have paper coffee cups. Wgat! Really!!! I saw the young man make a fresh pot. It was served in a plastic cup which was ok, I had a small Yetti. I immediately poured it into my cup. The coffee was not hot. You need to do better! If you don’t have coffee cups ect., don’t accept orders for that item!

I am always delighted with this place. As a military family, we always enjoy finding little mom and pop places with great food and service with each move. This is one of those places. The donuts are great but they are also very friendly. Also, they give a military discount. I didn’t even ask-she just saw my military ID when digging out my credit card. Very impressed!

Give this place a try! But get there early because they may run out before the posted closing time. Stopped by on a Sunday morning around 1030 and they still had plenty of donuts. It was our first time there. The employee was very helpful with all of my questions about what the donuts were. Prices may seem a little higher than your everyday donut chain prices but the donuts are massive! Well worth the money. I had the maple bacon donut because yes. I was not disappointed. Probably the best maple bacon donut I’ve had. The bacon was nice and crunchy. My kids had the cinnamon toast and raspberry filled donuts and they loved them. I’ll definitely be stopping by again!

Got a half dozen. 2 Maple bacon, strawberry, banana pudding, Twix and regular. Maple bacon donuts were great. The banana pudding was little disappointing but rest were good. Price was typical for specialty donuts. Would stop if in the area again.

Huge doughnuts! If you normally eat 2 at a time, you’ll only eat 1 of these. These are more of a drier doughnut like DD and not squishy, wet like KK. I prefer the drier doughnut and these are delicious! Sure, these are pricey, but you are paying for size and quality. There were several fancy flavors, but also the more simpler glazed or sugar/cinnamon. And their lemon filled was actually filled! Not just a tiny dollop in the middle. They will pacakge them separately if anyone in your household has allergies, such as to bacon. That was greatly appreciated!
They also offer coffee and espresso. I love Mobjack Bay Coffee and am happy to be able to get a cup closer to home.
Friendly staff, so eat in or take home. I recommend you give them a try.
