I’m in town visiting family for the weekend and my little brother wanted Mexican food for dinner. We decided to check out Don Ruben’s since it was on our way to our family’s house. The food was pretty solid overall. The chips and salsa were refreshing. The tacos and enchilada were tasty and well-seasoned, but the Mexican pizza wasn’t that great. Not much flavor. I was surprised that they didn’t have hot sauce at the tables or bring you hot sauce for your entrees. Everything came out hot and fresh. The only real letdown was the margarita—it tasted off, not like a margarita should taste. Like it had some weird after taste of dirt or something weird. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was casual and comfortable. Not the best Mexican food I’ve had in Arizona, but definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and craving some classic dishes.

We arrived for dinner and were seated right away.
Our food came out quickly, and the service was impressively fast our waiter stayed on top of everything.
There’s plenty of parking, and the building itself is clean with a modern hacienda vibe that feels warm and inviting.
The food leans more toward Tex-Mex flavors, but everything we tried was delicious.

Overall, a great spot for a tasty meal.

Always a good time here with a great selection of Mexican food. I like to get their fajitas and margaritas. I recently took my mom here fur her birthday and we had a great time. Their service is friendly and I like that it’s locally owned. Come support your local businesses!

We’ve been to Don Ruben’s about seven times now since it has opened, and it has quickly become our go-to spot for delicious, Mexican food. The restaurant is well-decorated and spacious, with a welcoming atmosphere that makes every visit enjoyable. The staff is excellent and always very friendly.

The food is consistent with great with great flavors that really stand out. I usually order the shredded beef tacos (no cheese) with rice—always delicious and satisfying. My husband is a big fan of the enchilada-style bean burro, which is packed with flavor. The complimentary chips and salsa are also a highlight—fresh, zesty, and a perfect way to start the meal. They make a great fried ice cream for dessert, as well. I have them add strawberries and whipped cream.

It’s worth noting that during dinner hours, especially on busy nights, there can be a wait of 30 minutes to an hour. Parking can be a bit of a challenge during these peak times, but trust me—it’s worth the wait.

We recommend Don Ruben’s to anyone craving great Mexican food and a warm dining experience!

We stopped in to grab some lunch and overall everything was really good. We got the carne asada tacos and they were packed full. They definitely didn’t skimp on the steak. We also order a combination platter which was also delicious. The taco was great and the tostado was nice and crispy. The enchiladas and sauce was very tasty as well. Overall it was really good and we will have to be back to try a few more things.

If happiness had a flavor, it would probably be served at Don Ruben’s—and it would come with extra salsa. This place doesn’t just feed you; it emotionally supports you with chips and guac.

The food arrives so fast you’ll wonder if the kitchen can read minds. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and seasoned like someone’s abuela is watching very closely from the kitchen doorway. The tacos are so good they make you reconsider every bad taco decision you’ve ever made in your life.

Portion sizes? Let’s just say you’ll leave full, happy, and possibly planning a nap. The margaritas are strong enough to make you believe you could learn Spanish by the end of dinner, but that’s what I heard the next table say, so unconfirmed by me…

Service is friendly, warm, and efficient—like being hosted by people who genuinely want you to leave happy (and slightly overstuffed). Don Ruben’s is the kind of place where you come for dinner and leave with leftovers, a smile, and a new personal standard for Mexican food.

Warning: After eating here, other Mexican restaurants may disappoint you. Proceed accordingly.

Except for the tamales every thing was fresh and tasty. Too much salt in tamales for hubs taste. Service was prompt even tho they were quite busy on Monday at 6pm. We will return and try again.

We were looking for a new Mexican restaurant to try while celebrating my nieces recent high school graduation. Id never noticed this place before and had been in this same parking lot in the past at a few other food spots. I was please when we arrived to be greeted right away and that they had an available table for the five of us. Our server was friendly, took our drink order and left us to review the menu. We quickly ordered the spinach queso as well as the bean dip off their appetizer menu. I’m glad we also had the chips and salsa because the appetizers both came with flour chips which are horrible in my opinion. So we used the tortilla chips instead. I do wish the salsa was a bit spicier than salty. Both dips were delicious, but i really enjoyed the jalapeno cream cheese mixture in the bean dip. We ordered many different items for our main course from shredded beef tacos, carne asada taco plate, enchiladas etc. I loved, loved, loved the flavor of the green sauce on my chicken enchilada. My beef taco was a bit dry, but toppings etc were great. The bean tostada that came with the meal as well was tasty and beans had good flavor. The portions were good size and we did have to take some leftovers home. Pricing was amazing honestly. I cant remember the last time we ate anywhere with meals this large for under fifteen bucks. The place is a pretty good size, was clean and lighting good. It tends to be so dark in Mexican restaurants, All in all this was good spot and Id come again to try some other options.
