The food is why you go. The staff is very nice. Small outside tables and sometimes parking is a challenge. But their food is authentic. Don Rubens does not disappoint. Recommend menudo Chile relleno burrito or chorizo egg potato burrito. Enjoy

Read this review before you go. I was made aware of Don Rubens as I had to make a food run for someone. It is really an unassuming hole in the wall. Do not let this fool you as those who know….know. I ordered the chili colorado burrito (beef in red sauce). I am really picky about this dish. I would give it a 10/10 for portion, value and flavor. A 9/10 overall because there were a few pieces of fat on the meat the textured me out of one point. I also got a few combo plates and “El Gigante” burrito. Everyone raved about their flavors and food quality. In summary, if you want good food, good portions, slim price in a clean environment, head over to Don Rubens on Carson Stret in the HG. You will be glad that you did.

Stopped by here when the Thai restaurant I wanted to try nearby was closed. And I’m happy I did. Ordered the Chile Relleno + Soft Taco combo. It was savory and delicious. Rellano’s cheese was piping hot – just how I like it. Salsa added just the right amount of spice. Want to come back to try their burritos.

The quality and the atmosphere never changed. Except for their horchata – it tasted better than before.

I hadn’t been to this location since the 90’s when it was ‘The Green Burrito’ TGB…the Original. Before they sold the franchise.
I made a special trip specifically to get a Burrito, the Big Ed Burrito, that the TGB was known for. I wanted my kid to share something I remember as a kid. I was NOT disappointed, it was as big (2.5lbs) and as tasty as I remember. My 15 y/o really enjoyed it too.
The location was busy, as I remember back in the day, on both sides of the counter.
I also had an order of their taquitos, which I never ordered from them before. My kid wanted them, they were okay but i was dissatisfied because they lacked any cheese. Which was why I dropped a star rating for food. 3 Stars for atmosphere just because its an outdoor location, nothing fancy.
