The waiting staff was great from the moment that one walks in one is greeted in a friendly and warm manner. The food was great. I had not had conchitas a la parmesana in more than 20 years. They were great. I had the Aji de Gallina one of best I’ve had. My company had a Lomo Saltado.tgat he said was incredibly well madr and served. Nothing better than to accompany all this by Inka Kola. The rocoto and the huacatay sauces were on point. The manager/owner was super friendly as well and approached the table to greet us as well and check on our satisfaction.

I had dinner with my colleagues at the Don Pepe Peruvian restaurant for the first time on Saturday. The food was all delicious and I had a fun and good time. And I paid the amount and gave 20% of the tip directly to the staff. But another 18% tip was added to my receipt. They didn’t tell me about it and took two tips to me. I felt very bad about it. If you ever go here, make sure to check the receipt.

I came in around 1030-11 for a coffee. The guy at the counter was smiling and nice. I was asked if I wanted a med or large, I asked for the medium. I was charged 3.50, and given a small coffee, at least it looks like a regular small size . Also it tasted like water. I was in a rush so couldn’t go back, but this is my first impression of Peruvian coffee and it did not impress. If the coffee is almost 4 bucks a cup, it should be delicious, hot and fresh every time.

We have always done take out from here. I was impressed the first few times and their Lomo Saltado was to die for. The last time we ordered the food was awful and tasted completely off. We actually didn’t even eat half of it bc we were afraid it was rotten or something had spoiled. Not sure if there was a change in cooks but it was super disappointing.

We’ve been to this place many times — even after moving away from the area, we always find ourselves coming back whenever we get the chance. The freshness and flavor of the Peruvian food is something Don Pepe has always taken seriously. Every dish is full of authentic taste, made with care, and you can tell the ingredients are top quality.

What truly stands out is the mix and fusion of traditional flavors — it’s a unique culinary experience that keeps us coming back. There’s a wide variety of dishes to suit every taste and preference, and whether we come as a family or with friends, everyone always leaves happy and satisfied.

The service is consistently excellent — the staff is attentive, friendly, and always willing to offer recommendations or explain the menu. You feel genuinely welcomed every time you walk in, and the hospitality adds so much to the overall experience.

It’s a well-located spot in Freehold. While parking can be a bit tight on weekends, trust me — it’s absolutely worth it in every way. If you’re a true lover of Peruvian cuisine, this hidden gem is a must-visit. Once you try it, you’ll definitely want to come back!

Restaurant was at an estimated 30-40% capacity and the staff was unable to function properly. There were multiple take out orders that were being fulfilled while waiting for our food. After 50 minutes, we left. Location seems to prioritize take out orders over dine in persons.

Saw some of the negative reviews but decided to go anyway as we happened to be in the area and it was definitely worth it. Every restaurant right now is struggling with staff so our waitress was clearly one of two servers. However food still came out in a decent time and she did attend to our needs not to mention she was very kind and friendly. The food was extremely delicious and authentic Peruvian food. We were very happy with everything. Their Papa a la hucaina sauce is one of the best we’ve had locally.

A TASTE OF PERU –
I’ve been to 2/3 locations ( freehold & jamesburg) & they have not disappointed!
The atmosphere is calm and relaxed , friendly staff and amazing Peruvian cuisine!
The best part is that it’s not that expensive.
Recommend for a family dinner night!

We order from DonPepe Freehold often and love the food, which is why we decided to cater from them for Easter. We ordered a medium tray of Lomo Saltado ($119.99) and a medium tray of Pollo Saltado ($94.99). Both trays were more than half filled with fries, which we weren’t told would make up most of the tray. For the price we paid, we were really disappointed with how little actual food we received. It felt like a half tray at best, disguised as a full tray, and it wasn’t enough to feed our party. We called the restaurant to express our concerns, and they basically told us “too bad,” which was even more frustrating.
