Excellent Nigiri and Sushi Rolls.
Quality is good or actually better than places I’ve been in Chicago, NY, Atlanta.
True hole in the wall. Located inside the culinary campus west of TC makes it a different place to visit. Very knowledgeable staff! A++

Today was my first time coming here and it was absolutely the BEST! Sushi was so fresh and tasty, quick service, and the employees (plus owner was there) were all super friendly, kind, and explained everything we asked. We sat at the bar so we could watch them make stuff and they answered our questions about what was being served even when it wasn’t our food. I love sushi and I can definitely say this is the best quality I’ve had in town. Far surpasses everyone else. Give them a try! Plus sooo many gluten free options which a lot of other places are not great about! Great job! ❤️

Absolutely loved this place. The food was incredibly clean and tasted so fresh. You can really tell the quality of the ingredients, especially the fish it tasted fresh and new with no heaviness at all. The rice was light and perfectly made .Everything felt well balanced and thoughtfully prepared. Such a great hidden gem, I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to others

Awesome sushi! The staff was friendly and nice and there was a lot of options to choose from. The no bake matcha cookie was also delicious, on top of the already amazing Sushi and Soup.

Few places have exceptional food, even fewer have exceptional people. The dojo is a beautiful instance of the middle of this rare Venn Diagram. Brent and Randy have become cornerstones in our life up here and we wouldn’t want it any other way. We’ve been coming here since they opened three years ago and the only disappointment is that I haven’t reviewed them earlier. One of the best places in Northern Michigan. Also, life is hard. Treat yourself to the Matcha cookie. You’ve earned it.

Hands down the best sushi in Northern Michigan! Sushi so good that you feel sad after you finish the last bite because now it’s gone and that’s a darn travesty.

My favorite roll is the Seven Spice Tuna. The spice rub is so smoky with just the perfect amount of spice, and then shaved citrus on top is better than icing on cake.

I’m also a big fan of the Dragon, Golden Tuna, King Kombu, and Gojira special rolls. Honestly, I haven’t had anything there that I wasn’t totally enthusiastic about–even the miso soup is the best I’ve ever had. And quite frankly, I wouldn’t pay these prices anywhere else but at The Dojo it is worth every single penny.

The people are just as amazing as the food. The owner Brent is super friendly, happy to chat, and calls you by name. His dad is equally awesome–the family aspect makes me feel really good about spending my money here.

Honestly the dining room isn’t my favorite (the chairs aren’t super comfy) so I suppose I’ll have to give it 5 stars instead of 6. BUT they’re super conscientious about food allergies and are willing to change their cutting boards and everything if you need to avoid cross-contamination; all you have to do is ask.

Disclaimer: These are photos from The Dojo’s Facebook page, which I happily subscribe to for their drool-worthy photography. I was going to post my own pics, but then I realized that Brent never posted these beauties to Google and figured I ought to share the love.

A very small are but great food. It was very surprising to find out it was in an old school and shares the building with culinary classes. Loved every thing we ordered. A fun little experience for sure. I would recommend calling ahead though if you wanting seating space.

Oh my! This is NOT just another average sushi joint. This is an experience. Tucked away inside an old school, the location is unique and memorable.

The space is decorated very Japanese and is crisp and clean. The owner, Brent and his team are as kind and humble as they are talented.

The food was excellent! We enjoyed the miso soup, spicy edamame, Garden roll, spicy tuna roll, vegetable roll and King Kombu. Soooo delicious!

The presentation was on point with adorable table settings, quality chopsticks and self serve hot green tea.

This is a small space and carryout is popular. I recommend you eat it there so your taste buds can enjoy every savory bite while it’s super fresh.

Cute space. Yummy food. Great logo. Talented chef. Do not pass go, RUN to The Dojo today.
