Reviews
Service was very slow. It took about 30 minutes for our order so just be aware it’s not the fastest place. Totally worth the wait, though! Inside isn’t as large as I’d hoped it would be, and tables are first come first serve, where you order your food then go find a table, so you might be waiting a while before you can get a spot. All in all, would definitely come back here!
When I saw so many 4 and 5-star reviews for Biergarten, it drew me in. I might have thought my negative reaction to Biergarten was me, not them, but I don’t think so. Some of my negative reactions were mirrored in other reviews.
Call me crazy, but when I enter a restaurant to order a meal, I expect it to be clean. Biergarten was not clean. Mrs. and I entered about 1 pm on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. There were 3 people at the bar; the rest of the place was empty. We saw that it’s a place where you order at a counter near the door, receive a number on a stand to take to your table, and someone then delivers the food. The ambience is dark and unwelcoming, as were the few staff we encountered.
We walked toward three adjoining booths at the window. As we approached, we saw that two of the booths had tables covered with crumbs, and the third was still strewn with paper litter from a previous diner. We couldn’t see any staff nearby, so I went to the bar and asked a bartender if we could get a table wiped down. He sent over the lady who had taken our orders, who wiped off two of the tables, but then left the table with the litter alone until later. Now, maybe it’s just me, but I think that when the front of the house is that neglected and dirty, the kitchen is likely to leave a lot to be desired as well.
The bartender was the food deliverer, and he set down our trays. We each ordered a burger and shared chicken wings and cheesy tater tots. The burger was messy, to say the least. Biergarten advertises that their burgers come on Hawaiian-brand rolls, and that turned out to be a negative. The bun was falling apart long before the burger was eaten, so eating was unpleasant because of the mess. The burger was fair, but saying there are quite a few in the area that are much better would be an understatement.
The burger was acceptable, but the wings and tots were not. The wing meat was dry and had a stale odor. I suspect the cooking oil was long overdue for a change. The breading was overdone with a burnt taste that was unpleasant. The cheese tots were inexplicably covered with a small amount of flavorless, runny cheese sauce over the middle of the heap. The tots drowning under the liquid were mushy and inedible. The dry tots had a crunch, and we could eat them with ketchup.
Now, it was a dark, rainy, and dreary day outside. But it was also dark and dreary inside Biergarten. We found the furniture quite uncomfortable, though if you enjoy sitting on hard metal slabs, this could be your place. For us, this was a negative experience that will never be made up for by the manager posting that he’s sorry they failed, that it’s not their usual standard, and that they’ll do something to improve. It really was that bad for us.
I don’t often have such a negative reaction to a restaurant that I feel the need to share it and warn others. This was one of those rare times. I’m obviously in the minority, and the reviews for Biergarten are mostly strong. I congratulate ownership and management on that.
Just last week, we ate at a restaurant/bar two miles from Biergarten for the first time, with a similar concept, and I will be leaving a 5-star review for that restaurant. It was that good. Our server was a ton of fun, and the food was terrific.
I always enjoy a great sports bar with a happy staff, and terrific food and drinks. For me, Biergarten was not one of those.
SERVICE
it’s a walk up and order situation which is great (especially if you’re a larger party). the staff were all friendly and the gal taking our order made some great recommendations!
FOOD
we are huge breakfast burrito fans so we already knew this was going to be a fab spot for us. we opted for the würst burrito (with scrambled eggs) and bronco burrito (with sunny side up eggs). stick with the sunny side up eggs — WAY better and almost makes the burrito creamier in the least gross way possible. SO good. the crunch of the tots just really elevate the burrito! the only reason we didn’t give 5 stars is it would’ve been yummy if they had fresh salsa available with the burrito. that would’ve been the cherry on top!
**great options for vegetarians!
PARKING
it’s in a huge nugget market parking lot so there’s tons of parking close or nearby.
AMBIANCE
super cute and industrial decor inside, think modern garage with a flair.
SEATING
plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for those cooler days and nights. we sat outside (in 90 degree weather), and the patio covering made it really enjoyable!
looking forward to coming back to try some dogs and burgers! 4.5 stars, way to go all around dog haus!
