Reviews
Atmosphere: Inside was minimalist calm in dark wood, gray granite, and steel. Upscale. Lots of windows letting in the light even if the corner building faces an unimpressive view. Music easy listening like Enya and Kenny G.
Food
Fresh focused and delicate. Standouts:
The Jewelry Box Omakase ($70) indeed contained eight stunning fish and crustacean gems of superb size and quality, accompanied by a spicy roll cut into eight bites, a Japanese cake so fluffy and airy, and Japanese baby peach halves as palate cleanser.
The sole dessert currently offered at the time, a Japanese Strawberry Shortcake ($15), continued the light but flavor-packed theme. Perfect cake, fresh fruit slices, generously topped with gold-dusted meltaway meringue.
etc
No liquor license yet.
Drink menu was verbalized; in addition to Coke products, Moshi brand Yuzu White Peach soda ($6) was available. 12oz bottle.
Service: Extremely pleasant from the Chef, manager, front of the board chefs, server.
Value: Menu reflected a fine dining intention; still, thought value was high for amazing food in an elegant but warm setting.
Waited 15-20 minutes for food. Nothing came. The couple to our right, who sat way after us started getting food. At this point the “meal” was getting ridiculous. I followed up on our order and the server said “oh there is it (pointing at the sushi chef)”. I watched the dish she said was ours then served to someone at the end of the counter. To top it off, the couple on our left who also sat after us, started getting food also!
At this point I asked for the bill as I’d had enough. The server said she ordered us a free salad. I said I didn’t want it, but it came anyway. Around the same time, another server came by to say she spoke to the manager and we could just leave. As a final annoyance, our server made excuses on the way out saying that the sushi bar was backed up and the reason we didnt get food is that we only ordered sushi. That doesn’t explain why no one came by when we sat down, why our order was supposed to be coming but went elsewhere, or why other parties who sat after got food. Bad service and would not go back.
The uni? The single best thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. Bar none. I brought friends who swore they’d hate it, and it ended up being the best bite of their night.
Every piece is outrageously fresh, perfectly balanced, and unforgettable. The staff is warm, the atmosphere is stunning, and the entire experience feels special from start to finish.
I almost didn’t write this review because selfishly, I want to keep it to myself. But, the world needs to know.
Mark my words, you won’t be able to get in this place come the very near future.
100/10. No notes.
This is probably due to the kitchen being overwhelmed, so they cannot take their time with the preparation. This is also linked to the extremely long waiting times for individual dishes. This is something you really don’t want to experience on Valentine’s Day.
In short, the potential may be good, but everything is brought down by poor management.
The restaurant itself was clean and modern and it had a relaxed vibe.
The food was OK, but the service was really lacking.
Things started off fine.
We started out with the cucumber salad and a specialty roll.
Both of these items were really tasty and arrived in a reasonable amount of time. We also ordered the “Premium Sashimi Platter” for $90, based on being told by our server that it included Otoro and Chutoro. When the Platter arrived it contained neither. We commented to the server that it didn’t have either Otoro or Chutoro and he simply said “Oh, my mistake” and left it at that. Plus calling this a “Premium Sashimi Platter” is a stretch…3 pieces of salmon, 3 pieces of tuna, some oddly cut pieces of yellowtail, 3 mackerel, 3 whitefish and 3 pieces of scallop. The portions were very small for the price. On a positive, I will say that the seafood tasted good.
Next, we ordered 2 more of their signature sushi rolls.
It took over 45 minutes for the rolls to arrive.
One roll was way too wet and rice was not at all tight. The server apologized for the long wait time and said he’d notify the chef about the one sloppy roll.
Overall, the food was good, but overpriced. The service and wait time for food are definitely issues that need to be corrected.
