* last visit June 2017. Brisket bark was kind of meh, needed more seasoning. Smoke is nice, but its just that, smoke. Mega beef rib still good.
Our service was great and it has a nice little patio area to sit outside on nice days, but I’ve just never been impressed by the food itself. You can definitely do worse but I can’t give much of a recommendation.
Given the rather poor choice of barbecue places in LI this would rank above average. I’d go back next time I’m in town.
When the bill came and we saw the automation 18% gratuity added, we decided to argue, and offered to pay 15% – a difference of less than $10. Alisha – the counter-person was rude and dismissive. She could have been nicer, and this wouldn’t have been such a negative experience. But instead she said – “If you don’t like it, call Chris – the manager, tomorrow. Maybe he’ll help you out.” And then turned her back to me and said “Good night”. I was livid. Not only will I never go back there, but I will make sure everyone i know doesn’t go there either.
Live local and don’t come here often due to past disappointments. Tonight, not much change. Aside from the super nice server, there wasn’t much else good other than the nice smoky smell. I ordered a tap beer and it was warm. Not even condensation on the side of the glass. I didn’t even wait for server to come back to the table and I got up and walked over to her to tell her about the warm beer. I asked her for something else on tap and she told me they are all warm like that and have been for a few months now. Even saw a prior post about that. Then asked if the wings were still fried or are they smoking them yet. Nope, still fried and the boss won’t budge on it I was told. They’re all hype about how they smoke their meat, but still frying the wings? C’mon and get with the program. Frying wings is easy way out. A BBQ place should not be frying the wings. Smoke the dang wings already and differentiate yourself. The brisket, meh, a bit dry. The corn bread was good though. Sadly, despite my preferring to patronize local business, it will be quite a while again before I return.
When I showed up on the 24th at 4:30 they had to search for the order, they had it written down but they hadn’t yet cooked it. Well okay, things can get busy during the holiday season one might think, but there were only a couple of people in the place when I arrived and the kitchen crew looked as though they needed something to do. When I arrived they suddenly had something to do. Twenty minutes later I left Dixies with the order we had placed four days earlier.
At home we discovered the wings didn’t have much sauce on them at all, instead of the 60 wings ordered there were 48 and although the wings were cooked they were not done as usual.
I can almost understand not cooking an advanced order until the last minute, take out places loose money this way all the time. But we confirmed the order the day before – this had to give them the confidence that we weren’t goofing around with the order. I can even understand being short a few pieces once in a while, but there were a dozen pieces missing – enough for a $13 order of wings!
The food is good at Dixie’s but I can’t recommend getting a large order to go after this experience. You’re probably better off buying wings at CostCo and heating them up yourself.
