Mardi Gras maybe over, but you can still enjoy the delicious food at Dixie Cafe at Houmas House and Gardens!

Bourbon shrimp, crispy wings with chili glaze, and a BLT with fried green tomato + bacon; all solid choices.

Bonus: Walk it off in the gardens after for the beautiful scenery!

This place was so nice, eating with a nice view ti the garden and one of the staff members which I think was the cook was very very nice! They would even take you in earlier than their opening time.

The food selection is nice but not much enough variety.

Fantastic place! The gumbo was truly the best I’ve ever had! My husband said the Red beans and rice we’re amazing – and he’s terribly picky! Great atmosphere, super friendly service. So happy we found this little spot. We will definitely be back!

We live Houmas house.
It is such a beautiful place with an amazing staff.
We stay there every Mardi Gras before we drive into New Orleans.
Lovely. Quiet and serene.

Watch the peacocks strolling through the garden.

When you visit be sure to bring some tennis balls for Maggie and Dixie.

They are the sweetest dogs.

We have dinner at the carriage house and breakfast at the Dixie cafe.

If you ever stop by…. You will never forget it.

Fantastic hidden restaurant surrounded by lush tropical landscaping – this restaurant never disappoints! The Sunday brunch is all-you-can-eat and is a great value. The drinks are strong, cool and delicious. Make sure you stop in at the nearby Turtle Bar which is only a few feet from the entrance to this restaurant. It’s one of the most interesting and unique small bars you will ever pop into in the Baton Rouge – New Orleans areas. If you do find yourself eating at Cafe Burnside or grabbing a delicious cocktail at the Turtle Bar, I assure you that you’ll be smitten and continue coming here no matter where you’re from our how long your drive is. Guaranteed!

5/15/21 I came here for the first time. My date and I had reservations for 7 P.M. When we got to the hostess, she informed us that there were no tables available, yet. (Okay, no big deal.)
When we were asked to be seated at the ENORMOUS table, to be seated side-by-side, when we were not walk-ins seemed to be bit odd of an offer; however, maybe we would have preferred it…so it is fine that she asked. Not everyone can internalize reseravtions made would suggest that the people wanted an intimate seating area at their own table.

Once we were seated in an area apart from the wide-opened portion of the restaurant, we were able to enjoy a more quiet and reserved spot for our repast.

Our waiter started out fine, but he neglected us hugely later on in the dining: I had already cued him that I would need more tea (they do not have tall glasses…only gobblets).
At the end of our meal, he decided to bring a pitcher of tea for us.

The food that I ate: the gumbo and pumpkin bisque was tasty. None of these items I would return for, though.

My date’s shrimp po-boy was nothing spectacular for that $$$$. There was too much dijon or creole mustard used.

The lasagna was not that good, either.
It IS a VERY BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT, but it is not worth the hype.

One and DONE!

The food was good. The service is lacking. Most everyone eating appeared to work there, so they knew the rules and procedures which were not normal, in my opinion. It was confusing. It had upscale table settings and buffet setup, but you ordered and paid before you were allowed to be seated. Waitresses were visible, but you had to go to the counter to get a drink refill. They did not know how to treat guests.

Great spot to eat while touring the beautiful grounds. We had two dishes that ended up being enough for two meals. The Eggplant Napoleon was very unique and very tasty. Would highly recommend that. The oyster po-boy was also good.

While on business in the area our client took us the the Cafe’ Burnside and wow it was nice! The whole experience from sitting in the formal dinning room to our server that was excellent to the food being so damn good! I could see coming here for a special occasion like a birthday or a anniversary and for that matter, you could come at any time and be treated like a king or a queen! That’s pretty rare nowadays!!! Love this place!!! 🙂
