Really awesome restaurant—you can tell everything is cooked with love. We especially enjoyed the bean appetizer, and highly recommend all the dishes. The schnitzel, drunken shrimp, haddock, and curry mussels were standouts. The ambience is beautiful and comfortable, and our server Debby was wonderfully kind. We truly enjoyed our time here!

Literally, one of the best places I have ever eaten at in my entire life! Mind you, I am a world traveler. We ordered the French onion soup, and the shrimp appetizer. For dinner, we ordered the Schnitzel and Bone in pork chop. We also ordered two drinks. A margarita and an old-fashioned.
The food was amazing, the atmosphere was very cozy and intimate. I loved the old music that was playing in the restaurant and our waitress Debbie was great! She was super knowledgeable on the menu and had a great sense of humor.
When it comes to the food, the French onion soup was so tasty! The croutons were cooked to perfection and the cheese on top was melted so it would just string from the bowl to the spoon. The shrimp and crostini were in a delicious cream sauce and the shrimps were a decent size. The schnitzel was served on top of mashed potatoes, and glazed carrots. The schnitzel was crusted perfectly and pounded out not too thin. The bone in pork chop was served on top of butternut squash risotto and apple cider sautéed onions and glazed carrots.
I highly recommend making a reservations. We were fortunate enough to walk in when they first opened so the bar was first come first serve. There were no tables open unless you had a reservation.

A good walk from Bar Harbor center but the menu looked delicious so we wanted to try it! We both got the chicken coq au vin. It was very tasty, and a good portion size, though some of our chicken was a bit undercooked and my mashed potatoes were no longer warm when the dish came out. Our main complaint was with the service; we tried calling to make a reservation three times and were redirected to a voicemail that couldn’t accept messages. We then went as soon as they opened to get a seat, and they told us the only seats were at the bar or to make a reservation for a different day entirely. At the bar no one took our order for at least 20 minutes and we were waiting a fairly long time for the food too. Overall, the food was pretty good but the place is small and don’t expect to get a seat without a reservation made well ahead of time.

An exceptional culinary experience from start to finish. The meal began with the Coconut Green Curry Mussels—an outstanding dish with a broth that was truly remarkable. For the main course, I had the Belfast Lawyer, which was both flavorful and expertly prepared. The accompanying risotto was cooked to perfection and complemented the dish beautifully.

The poached lobster and local Maine beer were my favorites, and the seared scallops melted in our mouths, pure flavor.

I can’t say enough good things about this place, quaint restaurant with amazing quality food and great ingredients! Some of the hands down best food I’ve had, and I’m very picky and critical about food at restaurants growing up in a family of chefs ! Get the NY Strip, Scallops and Schnitzel and French onion soup!

Delicious! Started off with the French onion soup—best I’ve ever had! Loaded with onions, rich flavor, and crusty bread chunks. Hubby had the Halibut with polenta (he loved it) and I had Coq au Vin on a bed of mashed potatoes (amazing). Everything was fantastic. Portions generous. Service was friendly and attentive. Cozy, small restaurant. Make reservations if you want a table—we sat at the bar. Also, might want to go early—6ish—or they may run out of what you want (I had the last Coq). They only have about 9 tables. If I were a local, this would be a regular spot. Parking street side was pretty good since they’re at the very end of Cottage.

I feel guilty giving other restaurants 5 stars after eating here.
From start to finish, an excellent experience. I have been to many restaurants in many parts of the country, and this is easily the best. The cocktails were simply incredible, don’t skip out on the Manhattan! My wife had the margarita – dangerously drinkable!
The ahi tuna is phenomenal, so extremely tender and savory. I primarily came here for French onion soup, which is not readily available near where I live. This was simply great, and the best jealousy driven (my wife wanted to go elsewhere) decision I have ever made.
I’m not crazy about seafood, but my wife absolutely loved the Belfast Lawyer (lobster risotto) that she ordered. I got the ribeye, and it was cooked to perfection. Imagine the best steak you’ve had at a steakhouse, and then take it a notch higher than that.
Debbie brought such a fun and positive vibe to our dining experience, and somehow managed to field every table in the restaurant single handedly without missing a beat. It is awesome to see a master of their craft at work.
I cannot say enough positive things about our experience here. We would come back to Bar Harbor in a heartbeat just to eat here again.

Ok, so we came hoping they received our reservation request but they didn’t and the hostess was not shy (or very kind) when letting us know. We almost left just because she was so rude to us. They opened late and we waited a half hour outside to eat here. But we decided to stay and give it a chance because of all the great reviews. We sat at the bar, I ordered the bolognese and my fiancé ordered the ribeye! This was the saving grace!!!! They have a chef who is god gifted in the back! My fiancé had an out of body experience when he took a bite of his perfectly cooked perfectly seasoned steak and mashed potatoes! I mean WOW!!! My pasta was so good, if it was socially acceptable, I would’ve licked the bowl! Beware of the hostess but the food slaps!!! Will come back with tougher skin just to eat the food!
