Din Tai Fung is a global favorite for a reason, and the University Village location in Seattle delivers exactly what the brand is known for: consistency, efficiency, and well-executed food.

We parked in the free University Village lot above the restaurant, entered on the east side near the Tesla and Rivian showrooms, and took the escalator up to Level B. Despite Din Tai Fung’s reputation for long waits, arriving around 11:45 a.m. meant we were seated immediately.

From a vegetarian perspective, there were plenty of clearly marked options to choose from. We ordered the cucumber salad, garlic green beans, and vegan sesame noodles. The vegan wonton soup can also be ordered with noodles for a small extra charge. If you eat meat, the classic soup dumplings remain the main attraction.

For dessert, we ordered the shaved ice with fresh mango — light, refreshing, and not overly sweet.

Din Tai Fung works because it delivers consistency across locations. The food is reliable, the service is efficient, and the experience feels polished. That reliability is why people keep returning !

It is a crowded restaurant, which meant it is good food. I didn’t have to wait too long. If you have kids that is easily overwhelmed, please do bring sensory item.

Shrimp and Pork Spicy Wonton
The aroma of the pork hits you at first bite. With the shrimp being very nice and tender. The stuffing is seasoned well with the right amount of green.Spicy kick from the broth is just right.

Crab and Pork Xiao long bao. Ate 2 pieces. Kinda doughy at the top. Steamed but looks dry . The dough probably didn’t cook through enough for my taste and preference. However the service was great and they offer to send it back and get me another set. The second one was a slightly less doughy. Overall the taste was good the mix of crabs and pork was 50/50 ish.
Will visit again.

This is a solid spot for dumplings if you’re in the mood to treat yourself. The dumplings are consistently good, and the truffle special we ordered was especially delicious. We also tried the dessert dumplings, which were a fun way to end the meal, and the jasmine tea was surprisingly excellent. I’ve been to other locations as well, and overall the menu is very reliable, most dishes are well done. The spicy cucumber salad is a standout and a must-order. Pictured are the dessert dumplings, jasmine tea and spicy chicken wontons.

There’s almost always a wait, so reservations are highly recommended. At this location, we got lucky by opting for bar seating and were seated within about 5 minutes. The biggest downsides are the long waits and the high prices, so this is more of an occasional splurge than a regular go-to.

Food is always yummy (eating here at least once every 2 months). Dumplings are the best! Plates are big enough to share everything to keep that in mind. Broccoli and all veggies are always fresh.

About the atmosphere, consider that it’s very busy so in general it could be an overwhelming experience if you are sensitive of noisy / busy spaces.

When it’s busy it could take a quite long to get all dishes to your plate. So be prepared to spend 20-30 minutes waiting.

Weekdays are the way to go here as it wasn’t busy for lunch at all. We were seated right away and our service was prompt. Everything we had was excellent – from the string beans, fried dumplings, cukes, fried rice etc…. An excellent place for dumplings and a must visit when shopping the U Village.

Their bubble tea is surprisingly good—honestly better than what I’ve had from many famous boba brands in the US.

That said, the mango shaved ice was disappointing; it didn’t even look appealing. Authentic Taiwanese-style shaved ice should be covered generously with fresh mango chunks, like Mt. Rainier blanketed in fresh winter snow.

I went to this location about 2 weeks ago for my sister’s bridesmaids dinner! Service, food, & atmosphere were top notch! That being said there was a wait which was no problem since it was busy & it was dinner time! Definitely recommend going here for some delicious food and beverages!! The food and drinks were so pretty! Our server as well was very friendly! It was a big group of us girls and she did her thing!! I sadly forgot her name:( definitely recommend going to this place for either an event or even a simple dinner! 10/10 would recommend! Definitely will be back soon!

From the glowing red entrance to the sound of dumplings being folded by hand, everything here feels intentional — ancient and alive at the same time. Watching the chefs move behind glass is pure art in motion: calm precision, rhythm, and devotion.

The jade-green dumplings are perfection — soft, fragrant, balanced, and beautiful. They don’t just taste good; they feel good — light yet deeply satisfying. Every bite is handmade with care and soul.

The clear broth wraps you in warmth. The cocktails are bright and modern, balancing the comfort of tradition with a touch of artistry.

✨ The space itself radiates peace — modern, elegant, and grounded. It’s one of those rare Seattle spots that holds both energy and stillness, where food, people, and space align.

Whether you come solo to reflect, meet friends, or simply need comfort, this place offers more than a meal — it offers a reset. Easily one of the U District’s hidden masterpieces.

A taste of something timeless — food made with memory, heart, and intention.

We decided to stop by for dinner after hearing great things about the restaurant online. There was quite a line ahead of us, so we had to wait around 45 minutes to be admitted.
After our wait, we were promptly led to our table. Service was efficient throughout the entire evening, with multiple different staff members popping by to check up on us routinely.
We ordered the pork chop, classic xiaolongbao, shrimp and pork wonton, beef noodles, and shrimp fried rice, as well as the cucumber salad (not pictured)
Overall, the food was delicious. However, we were quite disappointed by the xiaolongbao, which was a little bit doughy and not very hot (as it was for other tablrs). Apart from this hiccup, the other dishes were great. Our two favorites were the beef noodle and the shrimp and pork wonton.
The bill came to just under $100 for a total of 6 dishes.
