The staff is kind and welcoming. The prices are great. The food was pretty good and cooked as requested. Maybe it’s just because we were there an hour before closing and they had been left to heat for a long time, but the grits were probably the worst I’ve ever had. They were dry-ish and chunky and even adding butter didn’t help. They definitely needed more cream and didn’t match pics of what others showed in their reviews. When they plop in the bowl, you know they need some cream. But I’d give them another chance in the future in hopes it was just a timing issue. The pancakes I saw come out looked like they had the perfect outside crisp, so I’ll definitely be getting those next time.
Now for my only real complaint and why I deducted a star since it kinda gave me the ick. When you visit a hole in the wall place like this, you don’t go because you know it’ll be the cleanest place you visit. You go because you know the food will be great. Those are some of our favorite places to visit. They did receive a 100 sanitation score recently. But I’m not sure how that was managed. The main cook clearly does her job without gloves, which is only approved under certain conditions. Touching raw bacon and then not washing your hands afterwards is not one of those approved conditions. Touching the already cooked biscuits to split them so you can scoop some gravy on top, all while still cooking eggs and other meats on the grill next to you just before and after, does not meet the requirements of one of those exceptions. Everyone else working on the cook line wore gloves. I get that she probably doesn’t like wearing them, and you’re not required to wear them, unless you’re doing certain things and not washing your hands afterwards. She maybe washed her hands after coming back inside (saw her disappear around the corner for about 20 seconds), but that was the one and only time she even left the grill the whole time we were there. I was impressed with how efficient she was at her job and getting all the orders right though. She could handle the rush with ease and it was admirable. I just wish she had washed her hands before cross-contaminating.

Excellent breakfasts. I usually get the flounder for lunch. And they do have the best grits in the world . . . Except for the ones I make at home!! Ask for Jessica, Miranda or Chelsea!

Well if they wanted me to make a change and make this a place I was going to eat breakfast here, they were way off the mark. I was there the other morning and was watching the plates go out and I thought I was going to make a change and start getting take out plates to keep from cooking. Well the eggs were ok the home fries were burnt and hardly any there liver mush was burnt and the toast was too and way to much butter. I wasn’t cheap either I left a $5 tip. Thanks but no thanks ladies I’ll cook my own from now on.
