I wanted to like it. I really did. The sauce isn’t bad, but it’s not it, man. My wife and I got a three meat plate, chicken, sausage, pulled pork. The pulled pork looked awful, and my wife confirmed it tasted awful; it was either really low quality pork, or it was all fat and it was super dry, even with the sauce. The sausage was bland. The chicken was the best part, but shared very little difference with Tyson chicken in terms of texture and flavor. The Mac and Cheese was good, but tasted like Stouffers. The baked beans were Bush’s Baked Beans and you can’t convince me otherwise. I also wasn’t greeted when I came in, the woman behind the counter seemed really angry? Whatever, point being, I will be finding my dinner elsewhere this evening and in the future. Sorry guys.

I went in at lunch time today, and it was a bonus for me as it was not crowded. But it was also unfortunate that I was the only one there during lunch hour, while surrounding businesses were thriving. I have not had a bad experience here in a half dozen visits or so. Today I had the Western Sandwich combo, which is a good size sandwich with two meats and cheese. I did the smoked chicken and delicious brisket. Great sandwich, I tried the potato casserole instead of the french fries and wish I hadn’t. Basically dried mashed potatoes. The french fries have always been fresh when I’ve gotten them. I realize Dickey’s is a chain, but I can’t believe for the value and smoked meats that it doesn’t generate more business than this. $12 for the combo I had today which includes a large fountain drink. Give it a try, especially the brisket (stay away from the potato casserole).

The storefront is nice and the staff seems great, but the first thing I noticed was the lack of smell. When you go to a good BBQ joint you can smell the smoke. Not here. I got the 3 meat plate with brisket, ribs and the jalapeno cheddar sausage. Plus 2 sides, I got baked beans and Mac and cheese. It was $18 and change which is a reasonable price for BBQ. Unfortunately, the food just wasn’t good. The sausage was the best thing I got, and the best thing I can say is that it was OK. The ribs weren’t very meaty and tasted like the were cooked in an oven. No smoke flavor at all. The beans tasted like they came straight out of a Great Value can. The Mac and cheese was bland and thicker than I’d prefer. The “Texas toast” was a dinner roll. But the brisket was absolutely terrible. Overcooked, bone dry, and tasted like a pot roast. I had high hopes for this place because it’s a franchise from Texas, but this was some of the worst BBQ I’ve had.

First time visiting food was great, as well as the service. The subsequent times I visited were horrible. This most recent time we placed a group order with three sides of fries, but were only given one. The person who made they order said “they combined all three” and would not separate them, but it was the size of a standard serving of fries.
Will not be going back and would advise anyone to head over the Meat BBQ in Old Town, slightly more expensive but vastly superior product.
