The sambar was hot water. Dosas and pooris were stone cold. The chutney and subzi for poori and chai were the saving grace.
Never coming back here again, atleast for the food.
Never coming back here
Just want to share my experience of food especially regarding this branch. Rumali Roti was good. The Naans were given too late after they are ready by the girl. They are not at all attentive. From the beginning which I observed, she is not at all welcoming. The chicken curry was kind of uncooked smell which I mean to say. The mutton biryani flavoured as pulao. The staff service is like 0/5. Overall worst service and worst food….
Desi District, McKinney
They advertise a Wednesday offer of three varieties of biryani for $34 (we were charged around $38). We had guests visiting from Utah who wanted to try mandi/biryani, and the staff recommended this Wednesday offer.
We ordered:
Vijayawada Chicken Pulav
Mutton Pulav
Special Chicken Biryani
Taste:
This was honestly the worst biryani I’ve had in Dallas. It tasted like plain bagara rice with pieces added—there was no proper flavor at all. The biryani was overly loaded with pepper and cinnamon, making it very unpleasant to eat.
We actually stopped eating at Desi District McKinney about 1.5 years ago because the food quality had already gone downhill—not just biryani, but many other items as well. Earlier, the food used to be much better. Even their groceries are disappointing now; we only go there occasionally for coriander, mint, or curry leaves, and even those are often not fresh.
Normally, we order from our regular restaurant, but since we weren’t feeling well, we ordered nearby, hoping Desi District might have improved. Unfortunately, it was worse than before.
Because of this experience, I will never visit this restaurant again. I have also shared this feedback with my Dallas friend groups so they are aware.
What really made my visit special was the service. The front staff girl greeted us with the warmest smile, helped us with great menu suggestions, and checked in throughout the meal to make sure we had everything we needed. Her friendliness and professionalism made the whole experience even better.
It’s not just the food, it’s the people here that make this place stand out. Highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for great Indian food and genuinely welcoming service. Will definitely be coming back soon!
The Chicken Fry Piece Biryani was even more disappointing. The rice was similarly dry, and the chicken pieces were too large and undercooked, with a raw smell that made them inedible.
I hope the restaurant can improve the quality of their dishes, as this experience was below expectations.
Would love the owner to open a location in Rockwall TX!!!
