Some of the best customer service Ive ever had in my entire life!! If you’re craving an authentic New Jersey style Italian sub, this place nails it. Every bite is perfection. The chicken cutlet tastes just like something Nonna would make, with that extra touch of love only Uncle Tony could approve of. They use the freshest ingredients, pile them high, and you can truly taste the difference. This isn’t just a sandwich.. it’s comfort, tradition, and flavor all stacked between the perfect new jersey sub. P.s. add ricotta to the DDD!!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! DeRita Italian Deli is truly a standout in St. Augustine and absolutely deserving of its “Best Sandwich Shop” recognition. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. I had the chance to meet Stephanie, one half of the husband-and-wife team behind this deli, and she was warm, genuine, and clearly passionate about bringing real Philadelphia flavors to our community.
The food is outstanding. We tried several sandwiches, and each one had its own personality. The Veggie Hoagie was unbelievably flavorful — the fried eggplant, fresh mozzarella, broccoli rabe, and roasted red peppers all came together perfectly with the pesto and balsamic glaze. You could taste how fresh every ingredient was.
The Italian Tuna was another favorite: light, clean, and made with high-quality imported tuna in extra virgin olive oil. But the star for me was the Amalfi Cutlet. The crispy chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella, arugula, and the bright lemon spritz was absolutely delicious. It felt like something you’d eat on a vacation along the coast of Italy.
We also tried their Galvanina organic sparkling drinks, which are refreshing and not overly sweet, and picked up some Italian desserts — the pistachio ricotta and limoncello cakes were amazing.
The mural inside the shop is worth a mention too. It beautifully blends Philadelphia with the Amalfi Coast and adds such a special artistic touch to the space.
Overall, you can tell this deli was created with heart. The quality, the flavors, the hospitality — everything is top-notch. If you haven’t visited yet, you’re missing out on one of the best food spots in St. Augustine. Highly recommend!

What sets it apart? They use real Cooper Sharp cheese (the iconic Philly move), and when that creamy, sharp melt mixes with the perfectly seasoned chopped ribeye… it’s pure magic. Every bite is juicy, cheesy perfection, all wrapped in a sesame- seeded roll. One bite and you’re transported straight to South Philly.
The chicken cutlet hoagies and chicken parm are straight-up FIRE too hand-breaded cutlets, house-made marinara that actually tastes like tomatoes and love, and that same killer Cooper Sharp or fresh mozz melting over the top.

This cheesesteak sub is the bomb, best sub I’ve had in a long time. The bread is from Philly and with Cooper cheese OMG. I get this sub almost every Wednesday or Friday which is the only day you can get it unless there’s a special thing on Sundays. If you are from up North I guarantee you will love this sub place we’ve had the Hot Italian sub , the cutlets subs and all are sooooo amazingly good. It is a must try I promise.

I finally found a decent Philly cheese steak in St Augustine. The rolls are shipped in from Liscios Bakery, the meat, cheese, and cooked onions make an authentic sandwich. The Italian hoagie did not disappoint either. I’ll have to try the chicken cutlets the next time.

I finally had a chance to try DeRita and it didn’t disappoint! These guys know how to make a sandwich! We tried it the Amalfi chicken cutlet and the Cooper turkey sandwich, both were great. We ordered the 1/2 sandwiches and they are huge. I definitely will be back to try the cheesesteak! If you haven’t been here, you definitely need to give them a try.

This place was been recommended to me by a friend for their cheesesteaks but haven’t been able to make it their as they only do their cheesesteaks on Wednesdays when I am typically busy.
They did not disappoint. Bread was fluffy and fresh, steak was super tender with a ton of flavor and a perfect amount of their cooper sharp cheese was added. I have tried well over a dozen cheesesteaks in the greater Jacksonville area; This one take the cake and it isn’t even close.
Cannot wait to go back for another, as well as try out some of their other sandwiches that they have available!
