Derby’s is pretty much the local watering hole for Harrington and has an atmosphere of a small-town restaurant. It was clean and well-kept and felt like I had plenty of room in the dining area. Nothing spectacular but it felt right in line with a local institution.
They also have quite the variety of items in their menu as well. Anything from burgers and sandwiches to steaks and well…the other “steak” (aka cheesesteaks) and seafood. They also have a rotating seasonal menu with other options to try as well.
The service was decent though I felt it was a bit on the slow side the later into my visit I was as I did have to wait a couple minutes to get a refill on my soda. Other than that, the service was good and the server was generally pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu.
I started my meal with their seasonal crab soup, which is a tomato-based soup I found pretty tasty. Do note, they have a year-round cream of crab soup on their menu as well. I also had the pulled pork on mac ‘n’ cheese, which is one of their seasonal menu items. The pork was very tasty and had a good mouth feel with the right amount of chew and was decently seasoned. The mac ‘n’ cheese was thick and creamy as I generally prefer my mac and the cornbread was awesome. It was soft but held up very well to the BBQ and mac and with a dribble or two of their honey which they have available as a condiment was near-perfect. The only critique I have is that between the cornbread and the richness of the mac ‘n’ cheese, the choice of BBQ doesn’t quite work for me as I found it a bit sweet for my liking. I would recommend going with something either a bit smokier or have a little bit of heat to help balance out the dish. Other than that, I very much enjoyed it and it was very filling. I don’t know if it was just Saturday night or whatever, but I was served some pudding (to go in my case) which was also a pretty good pudding.
If you’re passing through or stopping in the area, Derby’s is a great local option for dinner with a great variety of offerings on their menu.
Is our new favorite only were once 7-19-2025 .
Ava was awesome I don’t think we have experience a place quite like this since we have moved to Delaware. Everyone was so nice and friendly. Owners and wait staff so friendly it has a great feel to very welcoming. They were busy but we didn’t even have to wait for a table.
Live music is nice not too loud so you can still talk. They want to make sure you have everything you need all your beverages and food.
I got the Mediterranean flatbread that was amazing fresh ingredients so good. Slices of tomatoes, cheese and spinach, my mom got the Fried coconut Flounder she let me try that man that was banging, and my husband got the crab cakes he said those were delicious there’s meal come with salad and a dessert.
I had the peach Sunrise very good drink I had so good I had 2 of them.
My husband got for his first drink Crown peach tea he said he could taste the fresh tea it was made out of no mix there. Then he got a BlackBerry Crown special also very good.
My mom just got coffee cause she was driving her car.
We will definitely be going back. Cheddar’s used to be are good to spot this place was outstanding we will be back better then Cheddar’s by far.
Great prices
People that are saying that had a bad experience here must have been at a different restaurant then us. Thank you for making the Derby’s it’s the bomb!
By far the worst was our server was ghosted us never checked on us after our dinner was delivered until we needed boxes and a check we asked another server for refills of our waters and drinks.
Great time. Chose to sit at the bar since didn’t want a whole dinner thing. Alicia was amazing and fun to hang out with while I ate. Was supposed to just run in and grab food really quick but ended up hanging out longer and enjoy myself. Will have to come back to try their chicken and dumplings. (FYI it’s only only Sunday and Wednesdays for them… found out the sad way)
Just wanted to acknowledge one of the hardest working bartenders I’ve met. Jessica was amazing, lots of pressure, lots of orders but
one she was super sweet under tons of orders and pressure and
two, she remembered to check up on us and was attentive, I honestly don’t know how!
Thank you Jess! Girl you are amazing, and Derby’s is lucky to have you!
